Field of Dreams (spoilers)

I think this is an OK movie....but nothing more.....and that's its problem. Its just ok.

Regardless of topic, this movie has a subtext which is similar to Field of Dreams. Do you see/hear/feel the magic and are you willing to become emotionally invested and make that dream a reality?

Field of Dreams hits those notes perfectly...even to the end when the non believer finally can see the players on the field and changes. All of the characters emotional arcs ring true.

Mr. Magorium's with the same story arc never develops the character arcs. Its a visually pretty movie.....with a structure which has worked well in other stores....but you never care about the characters at all. I mean, Natalie Portman's character doesn't even seem fantastically sad or determined when the magic goes out of the store... She just becomes kinda matter of fact meh.

With a little more character development this could have been a much better movie.

I need to respectfully disagree.

I absolutely adore this film. The depth of the characters, and the amount I find myself invested in them, along with their development is a very large part of my love for the movie.

It isn't critically acclaimed, and it wasn't showered with awards. But that is okay.

It makes me happy when I watch it. I have borrowed it to numerous friends, and they always love it enough to buy their own copy.

Maybe you should watch it one more time, with some chocolate milk and popcorn. Get in a silly, innocent mood, and just enjoy the whimsical humor and joy.
