The trouble with critics is that they're paid to criticize. They see too many films they get bored they want something different they have too high expectations. They get disappointed a lot and sometimes they get it wrong. (and just like the rest of us it depends what kind of day they've had!)
The critics were right, and Dustin Hoffman was painful to watch.

The OP does not know the meaning of “art criticism.” It’s very different from the vernacular use of “to criticize.”
