okay, neither of those are the way I heard it.
in Dan's first(original) life he was killed by Curtis (30+ years ago?)
at some point Harman absorbed Dan's body/soul, starting his second life
in his second life as a member of Harman's "Union 7" he was killed by Emir
Endocrom has it right, I think. Dan basically sells his soul to Harman, who has the power to bring people back from the dead (thanks to Kun Lan).
Emir kills him again. I think this partly explains Dan's overconfidence during the encounter - if he's killed, he knows Harman will simply bring him back again. What he didn't count on was Emir killing Harman, which made things rather complex for Dan.

But all of that was years ago. Before, Garcian learns the truth that he was givin Harman's power to control the persona and we see that when he opens up his case and we see all the killer seven'ts weapons. Yeah...this game is so confusing. I'm gonna have t map this out and read Hand in Killer 7.
sharesee, Harman "absorbed" Dan after his first death 30+ years ago and Harman has kept Dan alive as a part of himself. I read one time that even though he hates Harman for basically enslaving him he'll go along with it because they made a deal that Harman would keep Dan alive long enough to kill Curtis.
shareYea, Curtis got to him first. Thats why Dan wants to kill him so bad. Emir killed him after that (after Dan had already been recruited by Harman).
I've been told that Dan tried killing Harman once. Nearly succeeded too. Don't exactly know what he planned to do after that. Try to take over Harman's body and his powers?
