Any other games like this you'd recommend?

I really liked this game...I like games with deep storylines, they don't explain everything but explain the main plot....my favorite character and storyline was Daniella...

I like Rpg's, survival, adventure...I dislike shooter games and those in first-pov....

Sorry, I'm being too picky, any recommendations?

....oh and does anybody know how to trigger the Hot Poker scene?

Rule of rose has an excellent plot but the gameplay is terrible, it takes likes 20 sec. to go through a door. I wouldn't reccomend clock tower 3 though, just watch all of the scenes on you-tube and you'll know why I say this:)

Haunting Ground is a scary version of Clock Tower 3.

I personally think that Clock Tower 3 is scarier than Haunting Ground. I was actually able to play through that game, but CT3, no way. The first guy you get chased by is just too much for me. If I'm going to play, I have to start with the 2nd part of the game. lol

Sledgehammer gave me nightmares and thats saying something when I can play a game like Silent Hill 2 and barely flinch. lol

Resident Evil FTW!! <3

Clock Tower 3, for me, was ruined by the fact that the enemies teleport into your location, and then some weird beat plays when they start chasing you. It ruined any sort of sense that they were always chasing you (made it feel like you were always alone but sometimes an enemy would appear) and the music killed any sort of intensity in the chases. I made it to the third enemy, who, without any places to hide, I couldn't escape from, and couldn't actually get anything done.

I'd recommend Rule of Rose as well. There is very DEEP and EMOTIONAL story buried within obscurity and clever clues. The only problem is the gameplay (in terms of combat, specifically; for me at least), it's bearable if you stick with it and try to avoid fights. The game emphasizes exploration like no other I've ever played, there's so much to see and collect and a handful of unlockables ensure at least another playthrough.

Clock Tower 3 is worth playing. It's the predecessor to Haunting Ground (which was originally envisioned to be CT4) and as a result hasn't quite got the panic mode and hiding spots concept sorted (in that there are hardly any places to hide and the enemies are pretty dumb when you do hide) as well as HG, but it has a better story than HG's and the boss fights are brilliantly original. I must say CT3 probably has the hardest final boss battle I've ever come across!!
You should be able to bag a cheap version on eBay, so you won't waste too much money.

Watch the scenes, the plot looks pretty stupid to me. Especially the portly old man who looks like winston churchhill.

reply

The portly old man is hardly in the game, but he is only in disguise as he lives at the family house as a lodger, but he does hide a sinister and psychotic secret. You will hate this guy by the time you reach the end!!
Some of the scenes are pretty disturbing for a game too, like the little girl being bashed over the head with blood spraying out all over the wall and her corpse bouncing down the stairs...

Baroque, Silent Hill 2, RE2, Fatal Frame series, Clock Tower (since Haunting Grounds pretty much rips this game right off), Alone In The Dark and Sword Of The Berserk: Gut's Rage come to mind immediately. Similarly violent, disturbing storylines.

Also, to answer the OP's second question, I think it's the...Jupiter room? It's a room with a small fireplace and you have to go back in a second time and Daniella is there stoking the fire. It triggers the cutscene and she forevermore has the firepoker. It deals double damage though, so make sure you really want her to have it haha.
