Did anyone understand the plot?

The story is sketchy and I thought they would explain things in more detail as Fiona progressed through the game, but I felt sort of cheated after I beat the game and there are still many questions that were unanswered. I'm aware that there are 4 alternate endings, but what I've heard so far about the other 3 don't help me better understand just what the heck is going on either.

Here's my interpretation of Haunting Ground's plot:

(!!Spoiler warning for those who haven't played the game yet!!)

Riccardo Belli murders Fiona's "parents" (Ugo Belli and Ayla Belli) by causing the car accident. Ugo and Riccardo are clones created by the original Aureolus Lorenzo Belli, a "great alchemist" from the 18th century who has managed to live many years past his time. (Ayla, Fiona's mother is NOT a clone) The Belli family has a dark history of human cloning and occult magic dating back to the 18th century attempting to cheat death and have eternal life. The clones all have defects and flaws there is a missing ingredient called "Azoth" needed to create a perfect clone. Ugo Belli was the only clone that wasn't evil he escaped the castle to start a normal life and married Ayla (non-clone) and they had a daughter, Fiona. Fiona inherited the "Azoth" from her father's genetic material, this is what the evil clones Lorenzo and Riccardo need to survive. Some of the female clones in the stasis tanks and mummified clone corpses throughout the castle look like Fiona and they all were pregnant when they died. Previous attempts at cloning Lorenzo/Riccardo had failed because none of the Fiona clones had the "Azoth" needed to sustain life. Riccardo kidnaps Fiona with the intention of impregnating her rather than producing a clone to make a perfect non-defective copy of Aureolus Lorenzo/Riccardo. Daniella the maid was one of the clones that was supposed to give birth to Lorenzo again, but she is a human/plant hybrid clone, she can't have children (I think somewhere in the game mentions Daniella doesn't have a womb) thus she is insanely jealous of all the attention her "master" lavishes on Fiona when she arrives at the castle and hence why all the numerous attempts to kill Fiona later in the game.

Here's what I don't understand:

1. Why was Ugo Belli, Fiona's dad driving around the neighborhood where the old castle was if he knew that the clones would persue him and his family?

2. Do these Lorenzo clones retain the memories and thoughts of the previous one? How is that "eternal life"? Enternal life is living forever, not dying and then being born again. The person may have the same genetic material but it is not the same person.

3. What was the dog Hewie doing at the castle? Was he Debilitas pet?

4. Is Debilitas one of the defective clones or is he just a deformed and mentally challenged groundskeeper?

5. Why does Riccardo dress like a monk? Why does he have all those scars on his forehead?

6. Why didn't Fiona's dad tell her (and wife) about his family's dark past?

Any other thoughts on this...

well capcoms games have always been sketchy on the plot details

The questions are never really answered, but here are my theories:
1 - Maybe Ugo had a natural attraction to the neighborhood, maybe he was called there since he had the Azoth in him
2 - I don't think they do
3 - Well, Hewie obviously was trained to attack people. Maybe he belonged to a cop or a soldier that was killed there. I doubt he belonged to Debilitas; he seemed well cared for. I can't picture Debilitas as much of a caring owner.
4 - I think he's a defective clone
5 - scars = experiments?
6 - would you??? LOL

well apparently, Hewie had a cameo in RE4 [or so I've heard, don't quote me on that].

Resident Evil has always centered around 'police', right? [Umbrella Corp is like, an FBI of the RE world...probably not accurate, since I'm not a huge fan of RE, but you get the gist] Then maybe the theory of Hewie being a former police dog is possible.

I'm not sure if it's supposed to be Hewie, (after playing RE4) there is a white dog that comes to rescue Leon from El Gigante, but only if you rescue the dog from the bear trap.

debilitas was also a clone a failure clone

1. I don't think they were anywhere near Belli castle either... The Belli estate is most likely located in northern Italy, the Belli family culd have been driving in France, Germany or any place in rural Europe. except England, since they were driving on the right side of the road. My bet is on Provence, France.

2. One of those not-very-well explained plots. But I agree with most here that the idea of "eternal life" was still in the making so to speak. It was a process, an unfilled task. They needed the perfect clone, a carrier of Azoth. An alchemist could then use his knowledge to obtain eternal life by using this Azoth, the "essence of life". Ugo was the first clone to both be perfect and to carry the purest form of Azoth. Bur as we know, he split. I don't think the clones retained the memories etc from previous clones, but like identical twins they may have had a sort of spiritual conection.

3. Form what I've learned, Hewie is indeed the white dog in RE4 -a marketing trick from Capcom. I don't exactly remember where I read it, but I think one place was gamefaq.com. Hewie was probably owned by a villager turned ganado, took himself to Italy after helping Leon fight El Gigante where Riccardo found him/bought him from a kennel or something. He trainde him up to be a guard dog, but when Hewie started to turn disobedient(like steeling the prima matera) Riccardo locked him in the dungeon.

4. Both I'd say. The homonuculi are also defected clones. Since Debilitas is obedient and strong, he proved somewhat useful and was allowed to live.

5. He was dressed in a more sisnsted black cloack and hat when he kidnapped Fiona. Maybe he chose a neutral, non-intimidating outfit as to not scare Fiona. The scars... a visual manifestation/reminder that Ugo was the perfect cloe while Riccardo was the incomplete one, perhaps?

6. I think Ayla knew. Remember Lorenzo's words "along came that wench Ayla, she stole Ugo frm me". Besides the resentement and bitterness, it also suggests that firs Ugo and Ayla met, the Ugo split the Belli proberty. So she had to know. The birth mark on Fiona's back is a sign of Azoth, Ugo and Ayla thought it was best Fiona never knew.

What I can't understand is:

-why in gods name didn't Ugo and Ayla chnage names??? Would have made it next to impossoble for Riccardo to find them.
-Who was the corpse in the torture room?
-what was on the other side of the glowing door in the House of Truth?
-the blood stained pillar??? WTF???
-If Daniella was incapable of fell anything, why did she burst out in rage and show signs of jelaousy, bitterness, resentement, why did she care that she didn't feel???

It funny because fiona looks scandinavian, has a british accent, and an italian surname.

if that's true than that's pretty weird considering it would mean Haunting Ground and Resident Evil both take place in the same "universe" (plus the implication that Resident Evil takes place in a world where magic and alchemy and whatnot are real)

-what was on the other side of the glowing door in the House of Truth?

ah shoot, since it's been almost 3 years since I've played this game I can't remember that part, care to refresh me?

back in 98 I did a titty comedy for Skinemax. Sex Camp, ya remember it?
