Did anyone understand the plot?
The story is sketchy and I thought they would explain things in more detail as Fiona progressed through the game, but I felt sort of cheated after I beat the game and there are still many questions that were unanswered. I'm aware that there are 4 alternate endings, but what I've heard so far about the other 3 don't help me better understand just what the heck is going on either.
Here's my interpretation of Haunting Ground's plot:
(!!Spoiler warning for those who haven't played the game yet!!)
Riccardo Belli murders Fiona's "parents" (Ugo Belli and Ayla Belli) by causing the car accident. Ugo and Riccardo are clones created by the original Aureolus Lorenzo Belli, a "great alchemist" from the 18th century who has managed to live many years past his time. (Ayla, Fiona's mother is NOT a clone) The Belli family has a dark history of human cloning and occult magic dating back to the 18th century attempting to cheat death and have eternal life. The clones all have defects and flaws there is a missing ingredient called "Azoth" needed to create a perfect clone. Ugo Belli was the only clone that wasn't evil he escaped the castle to start a normal life and married Ayla (non-clone) and they had a daughter, Fiona. Fiona inherited the "Azoth" from her father's genetic material, this is what the evil clones Lorenzo and Riccardo need to survive. Some of the female clones in the stasis tanks and mummified clone corpses throughout the castle look like Fiona and they all were pregnant when they died. Previous attempts at cloning Lorenzo/Riccardo had failed because none of the Fiona clones had the "Azoth" needed to sustain life. Riccardo kidnaps Fiona with the intention of impregnating her rather than producing a clone to make a perfect non-defective copy of Aureolus Lorenzo/Riccardo. Daniella the maid was one of the clones that was supposed to give birth to Lorenzo again, but she is a human/plant hybrid clone, she can't have children (I think somewhere in the game mentions Daniella doesn't have a womb) thus she is insanely jealous of all the attention her "master" lavishes on Fiona when she arrives at the castle and hence why all the numerous attempts to kill Fiona later in the game.
Here's what I don't understand:
1. Why was Ugo Belli, Fiona's dad driving around the neighborhood where the old castle was if he knew that the clones would persue him and his family?
2. Do these Lorenzo clones retain the memories and thoughts of the previous one? How is that "eternal life"? Enternal life is living forever, not dying and then being born again. The person may have the same genetic material but it is not the same person.
3. What was the dog Hewie doing at the castle? Was he Debilitas pet?
4. Is Debilitas one of the defective clones or is he just a deformed and mentally challenged groundskeeper?
5. Why does Riccardo dress like a monk? Why does he have all those scars on his forehead?
6. Why didn't Fiona's dad tell her (and wife) about his family's dark past?
Any other thoughts on this...
