How old is Lucy?

She behaves like someone 25 years old, and people treat her like she's 25 years old, but the actress looks at least 35 years old, and the intended actress was also around 35. Lucy seems too undecided about her life and too undeveloped as a person to be over 35. The confrontations she had with her dad in the film would have already happenned by age 35.

I could believe that she's been living that barfly life for the past 5 years, and finally seeing that she wants out of the dead-end, but I can't believe she's been living that life for the past FIFTEEN YEARS and is just now waking up.

Her story would have been more believable if she had been played by an actress 10 years younger.

According to a synopsis I read of the movie, Lucy is supposed to be a "thirtysomething."

I have no problem believing she's 35 or above. Lucy's issues obviously have to do with her anger toward her father, and some people never deal with those issues, ever. Why would her confrontations with her father have happened by age 35? Everybody's journey is different.

She's been a contractor for nine years. She has enough knowledge and capital to take over over when her colleague, boss, whetever he is, pulls out. Chances are, she was well over twenty when she got that job. From there, it's just arithmetic: twenty-plus plus nine equals mid thirties. The biological clock issue adds poignancy. Five years on with no change, her bar room adventures will look much more pathetic. Also her careful segreagation of her bar life, always choosing strangers, always paying her own tabs, shows maturity, maybe a painfull earned maturity. A younger actress would have spoiled it, or made it a completely different tale. Judd is superb here, just as she is, at least for the first two thirds, in Bug.

Probably 37 or 38, Ashley Judd was that old in 2006

Robin, you're an idiot. Welcome to the 21st Century! You missed the entire plot. Lucy was molested by her father and has a drinking problem. She hasn't even kissed a boy sober since the age of 14 yrs old. Ignorant people like you make me crazy. Where do you live? Planet Perfect? Women like Lucy exist all over this world Robin. She's lost, and fighting to stay alive. And to be loved. First and foremost, by her OWN self and by God. Wake up! Get out of the suburbs from Dorkville, and open your eyes to the real world. Hard reality like this happens...and it scars women for their entire lives. This films shows what can happen once you see the light.

Contrary to your claim, mcg715, Lucy was not molested by her father. You are mistaken about that aspect of the plot. Does your mistake make you an idiot? By your standards, I guess it does.

You are right about the alchoholism though. That could explain Lucy's arrested development.
