i liked this movie and was wondering if anyone knew any really good movies that are kind of like this one. i'm open to any types of movies. so suggest any movie you think is worth watching. thanks!

hey there,
i haven't seen this yet - tho i plan to - because i heard it was very much like The Science of Sleep which i love. both i think deal with shyness in people and how they create alternate fantasy worlds to partially live in in response to this shyness.
Science of Sleep and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (both by director Michel Gondry) and imaginative and beautifully crafted intimate stories of peoples loves and lives. tell me what you think

also, i think Amelie would fit into this category of shy people living in their own bizarre worlds...

There aren't too many films like this out there I think, but it would definitely be worth looking at The Station Agent or Raising Victor Vargas (two films the director has cited as influences).

I would recommend any John Cassavettes too - particularly Shadows. Also Killer of Sheep by Charles Burnett. Great, truly independent films with similar cinematography and similar themes (not to mention amazing scores!)

I'm a big fan of Raising Victor Vargas, but it was nothing like this movie. RVV is full of life and humor, and the characters are definitely not shy. It's an extrovert movie.

If you're looking for something similar to this I recommend Leo's Room, an Uruguayan film which also features an extremely shy character, though not as morbidly shy as Jorge in Choking Man. He also has a TV-addicted roommate who seems to know what's going on in his life.

Oh, I just thought of another one! Birdy, which is about another shy, antisocial guy. The film is more mainstream but in some parts it does have that surreal, brink-of-madness vibe that Choking Man has.

I thought of The Visitor and the Station Agent. It also reminded me of May, a horror movie.

Chinese writer/director Jia Zhang Ke's The World is a lot like this, even down to the animation.
