Threat of an alien invasion...a bluff?

One thing that crossed my mind several times in this film was the fact that Wyatt mentions a few times that killing the alien would bring about mass devastation...an invasion possibly...but would that be the case?

IMHO - NO

From what we see there is likely to be only 1 ufo of indeterminate size and 1 alien...though I think an early comment refers to another alien and there is the scene where Wyatt is somehow "invisible" to those aliens going by in the clearing

The alien IS a tough son of a bitch but seems to die at the end - yes it did take a LOT of explosives but nothing the military could not whip out quickly. Plus the alien seemed a bit hurt by the shaving foam when it got sprayed(?)

Why does the UFO clear off after the blast IF they are going to wreak havok?

IMHO the alien plants a seed of terror in Wyatt to protect itself, an idea that if it is killed BIG trouble will start.

I don't think it was shaving cream. It looked like aerosol hairspray or lysol that foams a little after spray. I doubt this movie team would have the alien shriek in pain from shaving cream across the face.

I don't think they should have either shown the explosion slightly damage their ship and hence they hightail it. Thinking the cause of hurting one of their alien friends were vaporized. Or, they should have removed the conversation with the girlfriend about war on the humans. They could have said they'd make sure whomever attacked them was destroyed and never considered doing it again. Like if a pack of wolves attacked a human in Yellowstone. We'd probably kill the pack and any other semi-agressive wolves in the area.

Something that I was nitpicky about is that an entire property was wiped clean off the map by the explosion but a 6 inch concrete vault was untouched. That appeared to be an old garage with concrete floors and probably a foundation... It was a big blast and the tnt or whatever was detonated right on top of them. The vault they were in would have crumbled. Or would have been tossed somewhere.

It was tub and tile cleaner. We saw a can earlier, when Cody was lying the tub, with "MILDEW" as part of the name on the label. That stuff usually contains bleach, and it would hurt like hell if sprayed into the eyes.
