protentious excrement

This movie is BAD!!!
they make such a big deal out of porn,
everything is over dramatic and over acted...
this is a typical american B.S.
they are so righteous,
i am disgusted

reply

The big deal they are making is not just about the porn itself, but the addiction.

It might be less laughable if they hadn't cast Kelly Lynch as the uptight mom... you know, Kelly Lynch? Gratuitous topless & full frontal? At least she kept the implants tastefully small.

reply

I'm not really a fan of Kelly Lynch either. They could have cast a better mom, I think. But I did not find the film to be "laughable" at all either.

I cannot see any other reason why you'd defend this garbage lifetime film.

reply

No. I had nothing to do with the making of this film. The reason I saw this film is because I am a fan of one of the actors involved. The reason I like this film is because this addiction (especially the mannerisms of the addict) were portrayed well. And I say that because I do have experience with addicts and have seen one go on a very similar downward spiral as portrayed here with this very addiction.

This film can help parents recognize this problem if it happens with their teen. I wouldn't consider a film that can do that to be "garbage".

What addiction? This is not a movie about addiction. It's about a teenager trying to find an outlet for his repressed sexuality and getting yelled at for it.

reply

No. It is a genuine addiction.

I think when you go to the LIBRARY, HACK in, and look at PORN in public, you have problems! lol!

Hehe. It is a valid addiction, though. My dad is having quite the struggle with it. I had a struggle with it a few years back. I look at it occassionally, but only for a little bit. It usually hits well when someone is in a high depression state.
I didn't think that this film really resolved the issue. It introduced the problem and showed that the son and the rest of the family was prepared to battle this addiction, but I wish more energy would have been put into the actual battle more than some over-sexualized scenes inserted for shock value. This is a hard habit to kick. Like all addictions, this one might best be battled by replacing it with a different addiction. For example: the film constantly emphasized that his girlfriend was a heavy churchgoer, but the reasoning behind this was revealed to only give her prudence a valid foundation - why didn't she end up taking him to church with her or maybe to a church-sponsored teen group where he could find other passions to keep his mind off of sex during the day?
This film made me think about the difference in the value systems of straight men versus gay men. Straight men have certain issues to deal with when dating a female that gay men will never have to deal with. This boy's girlfriend had been seeing the boy for quite awhile, they were both highly romantic for each other. The girl was not ready for any action in the sexual realm though, still at that point. See, a straight man can date a woman for six months and still not get even a grope or HJ. A gay man usually gets it on the first or second date (which isn't necessarily that much greater because it is all animal passion, no love or emotional ties truly there). The girl and the mother really made the boy feel like crap over sexual feelings that all boys at that age experience. I might be inclined to resolve that I would rather have a son addicted to porn with mediocre grades than a son with pent-up sexuality issues that could lead up to assault or drug usage or risky behaviour. As I've said before, I look at porn once in awhile, but it's only a bit to keep myself from truly unnatural thoughts because I have some other sexual dysfunctions I have and always will be dealing with (caused by the society I live in) and would rather feed the porn part of my ID because it is the lesser of the evils.

like, it doesn't really work like that though. You look at the websites, you jack off, you go to sleep. That's it.

Like what would be the *beep* draw of jacking off all the god damn time, i would understand if the actual addiction caused problems in his daily life but it was really more of his mothers retardedly unreasonable problem with it. Lifetime had to take it to this extreme to make the concept even remotely viable. the people this character was surrounded by were laughably written, stereotypical fears for your average teen mom. and lifetime just loves scaring the *beep* out of them, the cool kids watch porn at parties, wtf is that. I mean, they made it pretty *beep* clear, THE DAY AFTER HE IS INFECTED WITH THE PORN, HE LOSES HIS SWIM RACE. LOOK WHAT HAPPENED GUYZ, CUZ OF THE PORN

If you notice, it isn't really the "addiction"(human urge), but more the self righteous characters around him who look down on him for jerking off, and that makes him feel bad and try to kill himself at the end.

and porn on a pda? *beep* seriously.

reply

Did you watch this film? The actual addiction DID clearly affect his personal life. It affected his concentration, his ability to focus, and literally caused him to drift from being rational as the addiction took over.

Also, he isn't "infected with the porn". He's affected by the addiction to it. And yes, it can most definitely affect his rest and above all the focus and concentration it takes to compete at a top level in any sport.

And the addiction is what took him on the downward spiral that let to him reaching rock bottom and coming very close to killing himself.

You must be a sucker for the atmospheric music and dark tones they play when he looks at porn. I mean what does he do while hes looking at it, paces his room drinking red bulls to scary, woeful, mood setting music and fast paced camera pans.

All of the problems did not stem from this "addiction".
btw, how many PORN CLIQUES do you know of at your high school
I'll spell it out for you REAL clear
his parents were disappointed that he got in 3rd place, (their problem, 3rd place is pretty damn good) hell his coach was yelling his ass off at him at practice, that probably didn't help his self esteem
His mom generally getting pissed off at him and flying into a panic when she sees him looking at naked women at night, (like is that an unnatural thing for teenage boys to want to do?) probably didn't help his self esteem

People beating him up at the end (what exactly does that have to do with porn?)

his girlfriend leaving him or something because she wont put out (had nothing to do with porn, obviously if they are making out all the time, he's going to at least consider going all the way. You can see guys get frustrated with this *beep* in every teen-era Americana flick on imdb)

a couple others i probably forgot, you're right i didn't pay too much attention to this crap, and I don't really need to, it's not like it was a non-linear mind *beep* masterpiece or anything.

His dad by the way, is a typical portrait of dumb males from the lifetime channel, whose target audience is lonely worried mothers looking for something to point their fingers at. I could take this same setting, all star swim teen with perfect family and church loving girlfriend, and with the powers of editing and make it seem as though just about anything is responsible for his downfall.

It's not like the standard for "corruption" and "addiction" were set that high with the church-loving girlfriend and picture perfect fam he was surrounded by
Funny how morality becomes more and more of a forced opinion the dumber people get.

It sounds more like it is YOU who is a sucker for that. The soundtrack and production of the scenes are not the message this film is trying to get across. What they are getting across is the that this real addiction took hold of him.

Porn cliques? Are you a complete idiot? Not all addictions bring about cliques. That's ridiculous. How old are you? You obviously have little knowledge of real addiction and dependency.

Yes, the addiction did cause him to lose concentration and focus in his life. Did self esteem play a part AFTER THE FACT and as his parents react? Yes, that's pretty common with addiction. Chemical or psychological.

People beating him up at the end (what exactly does that have to do with porn?)

Again, you continue to think everything should be about porn. It's not. It's about the addiction to it. His getting beaten up is a product of where that addiction took him though a series bad decisions.

Same with the girlfriend. If you are so ignorant as to think these problems are the result of just the porn or all have to be directly about porn, then this film went way over your head. It isn't about the porn, it's about the very real addiction to it and how it affected him.

Funny how ignorance causes some people to hate and ridicule what they didn't understand. Actually, I take that back. It's not funny at all. It's pathetic and sad as I mentioned in another response to you.

The addiction didn't affect his life. The fact that he kept himself around ridiculously overwrought, unrealistic characters and people who clearly do not understand the meaning of the word "logic" is what ruined him. Any mom who won't even look at her son, just because he lost a FOOKING swimming tourny, doesn't deserve to call herself a mother. And what about his seemingly-a-lobotomy-patient girlfriend? DOn't even get me started on his friends. When I was in high school, teenaged boys talked about getting laid and watching porn, Not doing so was a reason for ostracization, not the other way around. The list goes on and on.

OH! OH! OH! LICK MY LEG! I'M ON FIIRE!

Yea this movie was far fetched. Jacking off is harmless and all males start to do it when they're like 13.

This movie would only make sense if they replaced all the jeremy watching porn scenes with jeremy doing coke.
