lol, linkin park knock off?

What is the song that's playing when he's showing his brother the porn?
It sounded like Linkin Park but I don't think it actually was.

heavily edited for family tv maybe? lots of people on this forum think this movie is christian propaganda, maybe they're trying to show that metal is EVIL. which it is, if you actually have linkin park coming out of your speakers. so i guess they're right. go jesus!

That's one of the funniest aspects about this movie -- the knock off music in order to avoid a law suit.

I was thinking the exact thing Indie hehehe

The whole music plot to the movie was funny enough.

"Hey Monica, who do you like more? Greenday or Switchfoot?"
"Switchfoot's for alter boys. Gotta go with Green?"

Thanks for writing that line, square 40-year-old mother trying to relate to the kids. I think it's funny that 1) Monica was being cool by shortening the name and calling them "Green" 2) She said Switchfoot was for alter boys -- I understand what she was trying to say since Switchfoot is a christian band, but for some reason, "alter boys" was ghey. She should have gone the whole nine yards and just said "Switchfoot is for Jesus freaks." and 3) It was between Green Day and Switchfoot. I'm not trying to sound pretentious, but jeez, it's between those two bands?

Call me overreaching, but I'm thinking the band comparison is supposed to be an analogy between the girls. Switchfoot is a Christian band: Amy is sweet, pious Christian. Green Day is a power-pop-rock band whose first major hit was an ode to masturbation: Monica is the school tramp.

Switchfoot was probably used because they were relatively mainstream Christian group at the time, what with the airplay of "Meant to Live" and "Dare You to Move." As for Green Day ... they had just gotten popular again with American Idiot and the writers probably listened to them while they were in high school. Thinking realistically, most high-schoolers in this day and age would have likely said Blink-182 (but they're Green Day jr. anyway, so it's same the difference I suppose.)

But I might just be looking for symbolism where there is none, who knows?

Oh, and yes, the band name shortening was utterly stupid. I've been listening to them for years now and I've never heard anyone in the fanbase call ever them "Green."

I disagree about the Green Day vs. Blink-182...I don't even think Blink 182 has had a hit since the early 2000s plus they broke up. Green Day would be the better choice :)

Gotta love this movie baby!

That part was particulary cringe worthy.

I wonder why they did that, why not just get the rights to any song...not some knock-off soundalike song. On a side note, that band did sound pretty good, wonder who they are? LOL

reply

Rights to songs like those from bands such as Linkin Park I'm sure are actually quite expensive and were most likely just out of the budget for the film producers.

And to agree with all on this thread, I have never, ever in my days heard someone call Green Day by "Green" alone, or really any other nickname for them. Unlike how many call Rage Against the Machine just "Rage", which I think works nicely (and they also rock my socks), but this "Green" thing is just poor cultural assumption.

Now that you've got me thinking about them, Green Day has changed sooo much since they first hit the scene. I know they 'had to' go with the direction of where popular music was heading, away from Punk and more toward the semi-'emo' soft rock ballad type of group that soooo many bands have followed, and I commend them for lasting as long as they have.

All I know is in the old days, it was a regular thing to have random people from the audience come up and play guitar or bass or whatever for a song during their set. I ALWAYS wanted to do that, thought it would be sweet, especially because Green Day songs are really easy to play so you could spend more effort working the stage and having a good time rather than worrying you're gonna mess up a riff.

What were the lyrics to Linkin Park knock off song? "You lost control".. reminded of "In The End".

Well, that depends, are we talking about who is the better band? In that case, of course Green Day's the better choice. As I said, Blink-182 is Green Day Jr. (at least, in my mind). But teenagers don't always enjoy better music, and hence I think the reference is a tad unrealistic.

This movie is from the mid-2000s itself, though. And Blink's last hit before their break up (and subsequent reunion last year) was "I Miss You" in 2004. It outsold "All the Small Things" even.

And considering in 2005, I had more classmates crying over Blink's break-up than listening to "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," (and even more calling Green Day's lead singer "emo eyeliner-wearing fag" whilst praising and randomly screaming "TRAVIS BARKER!!!" at the top of their lungs) I'd have to stick with the protagonist liking Blink having been a better choice. And now I see it would have fit into the nickname line better, as well. Tons of people call Blink-182 plain "Blink"

Could I be bold enough to say that Green Day is a sucky band now? I enjoyed them at one point, but I just can't get into them anymore--ever since American Idiot.

reply

Dare to be bold!
