This show just got better and better!

im almost done watching season three, and Brotherhood is one of the few shows that gets better in each consecutive season. Though I just discovered it, I still am sad knowing that here will be no more episodes to watch. The pacing slowed over time, and shifted from straight narrative to character study. Declan Giggs, in my opinion, the anchor to the show. Embrey is amazing in that role. Sorry to see it cancelled too soon.

I'm watching the series on Amazon Prime (thankfully I'm not paying extra for this show). Apparently besides me a lot of other viewers would disagree with you, OP:

S01 premiere: 450,000 viewers (despite rave reviews)
S02 premiere: 370,000 viewers (18% decline)
S03 premiere: 305,000 viewers (18% decline from S02 and 32% decline from S01)

Not only did this show not attract a large audience, it lost a significant percentage of its original viewers over time.

I like dark shows--like Dexter and my favorite, Breaking Bad. There were at least some characters on those shows with some redeeming qualities. A few characters were even likable.

Not so with Brotherhood. NO likable characters, and the only characters with any redeeming qualities at all were Declan and Tommy's youngest girls. Everyone else was straight from hell.

Especially Michael, a murderous gangster. Yet Jason Isaacs stated in an interview (you can see it on Youtube) that Michael isn't a bad guy! He stated that if he thought so he would have not played the character. Incredible. I wonder how he would define a bad guy???

I got as far as 109, but when Freddie murdered his son's roommate and Michael covered up the murder, I had had enough. For the first time in my history of watching TV series I jumped to the final episode, 308, to see if at least Michael got what was coming to him. I had to have some assurance regarding the direction of this horrific show.

SPOILER ALERT: Alas, I was sorely disappointed. Michael and Freddie continued on their murder spree, unstoppable. And corrupt Tommy continued to roll. I'm done with it.

I already know how crappy the world is. I don't need this show to remind me. Because the truth is, this crap actually goes on.

Brotherhood is beyond dark...it's pitch black.

Actors do not have a job...they have a blast!

Well, it's been months since I finished it. I already have forgotten about it. I enjoyed it, I remember that much. I don't put much credibility into ratings - it's about if I enjoy it or not. As for the darkness, I can see where it likely turned people away. However, you could say the same about the Sopranos - all the characters were either sociopathic, psychopathic or just turned a blind eye to enjoy the lifestyle. None of those characters (save for what's her name - Christopher's girlfriend - who they off'ed anyway).

Eh, Declan? The hell? The guy was a misguided piece of *beep* and any redeeming qualities he had were erased with his misguided sense of trying to balance the books. Tommy had far more redeeming qualities than him. Mary Kate and Jimmy were likable characters. I found other characters to be likable, but you probably wouldn't agree.

Michael kind of did get was coming to him. He got beat into retardation at the end of season 1. He became a paranoid wreck in season 3 and he pretty much *beep* up every relationship he had and ended up alone in some trailer park. Michael said he was never going to leave again, but *beep* everything up so much that he had to leave.
