Funniest show i've ever seen

Seriously. This show is incredibly smart and hilarious.

reply

Smart? SMART?! Are you serious?! What on EARTH is smart about this show? This is no longer a matter of taste, smart is an observable thing, so please give me a few examples of any sign of intelligence in this show.

"It is not heresy. And I will not recant."

reply

If you don't think that whole scene in the mattress store in the 2nd episode wasn't smart, you're not watching carefully.

See, no one is saying that the characters are smart of their own accord; but being able to create characatures of these personality traits, shows a kind of intelligence of social commentary that I wish SO many more television shows had.

reply

Right, the scene where the squid rapes the customer's wife saying "Watch me or I won't get off!" Sorry I don't see the mighty brilliance in such dialogue.

"It is not heresy. And I will not recant."

reply

damn son, calm yourself. maybe you should quit looking at the characters and the OBVIOUS instances of idiocy. its a great show and it is smart. the example you chose is like saying 1 out of 10 people are ugly, and just putting spotlight on the ugly one.

reply

No, I chose that scene because the person before me chose to highlight it. All I'm asking for is a non-vague example of some of the intelligent humor and all I've gotten is "You're focussing too much on the stupid parts, focus on the smart ones."

"It is not heresy. And I will not recant."

reply

The writing is incredibly sharp, and the matress store scene is a great example. "Second coming of your caah or store credit"

reply

I love this show because it's twisted. I think it's pretty well written, in that it's funny. The pacing, plots, and characters all work together, and while it may not be tasteful, it all works to a brilliant effect.

"It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache."

reply

Wow, "genius" and "brillant" just don't mean what they used to...

"It is not heresy. And I will not recant."

reply

Okay, so it's not brilliant, but it's damn funny.

"It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache."

reply

You wanna sleep forever?! I said ah-dult li-tit-ure!

reply

I prefer, ah-dult lit-ter-ray-ture.

Squidbillies, like virtually all AS, should not be taken so seriously. If so, then it's horrible to watch. Check the brains at the door and it's fun. Yes, I've checked my brains at the door, and I've always reclaimed them.

It's a VAST improvement over Super Milk Chan and hell of a lot better than 12 oz. mouse (which does have a great intro).

Jamie (Mythbusters): Adam, the police officers say you need to drink more.

i believe the only notable way to elude someones assumption, that they in fact have the only silver tongue, is to speak to them in a demeanor which will eradicate their pretentious semblance. do i have your ears? if you cant conceive the virtual understanding that the words "sun bitch" phrased in an allusion of southern accent, so as to render white trash images to white trash speech funny, than there is no reason for you to inform people of your disregard for their style of humor. i assume greatly that your conjecture on this topic's only basis was your inclusive knowledge of humor that isnt thrown in your face and easily read. i assume the two sentences "it is not heresy. And i will not recant" jiggles your fiddle? do you really think because someone uses larger than average words a sentence becomes funny? youre thinking right now, "recant, thats not a large word idiot". i do not usually speak like this, and im hoping you understand the definition of the word 'magniloquent'. i thought that i would achieve someones respect who obviously has no idea of the expressivity in subtle humor, just to finish off the rant with.. i hate people like you, you elitest *beep*

"i swear to god, if you say anything about capitalization, i will crush your intellect. by the way, you suck again"

reply

Just a small point, but being from Alabama, I must let you know that it's "sumbitch." :-)

reply

Hahahahahahaha. I would've been too discouraged to put the effort into tellin' that sumabitch off, properly! But you did it dispatch, and it was articulmacated, and hilariousity.

Damn thats pretty hilarious.

if your looking for a brilliant plot or writing in a 15 minute show your watching the wrong channel man.

adult swim is cartoons.
we don't watch the shows to learn life lessons
or have a eye opening experience or anything like that.

go watch american idol or grey's anatmony you *beep*

reply

Daelock, if you don't think this show is smart, you are retarded. Mental retardation is a measurable thing, and I'm sure when you got tested for it, you were off the charts.

First off, I am not one to watch 'these' sorts of shows. That said, I do think Squidbillies is a fantastic social commentary which is why I continue to enjoy it immensely.
No doubt a lot of the humor is crude, vulgar, and cheap, but there is so much more below the surface and between the dialogue if one is willing to look.
There are definitely a lot of 'smart' things about the series.
The first example that comes to mind if the implication of how poor the state of law enforcement is; the fact that the policing officials are so incredibly dumb that they are portrayed as being plucked as ears of corn.

"Donny you're out of your element!"

reply

Daelock you must have never heard "watch with an open mind."
Or you don't know what it means. Pick your poison.

reply

This show is hilarious, IF you have a sense of humor....

reply

To the guy being a dick. It's hard to establish the link that makes things clever. But in this show it's how it subtly mirrors what's really going on in the world while masking it at the same time. Making in appear to be a completely juvenile show, but when you actually watch it from an adult perspective you start picking up on little bits that don't quite belong and that a kid would not understand.

How about now get suckered into believing a show is just completely dumb and unintelligent just because of the style and the general subject matter. It just shows that you don't pay attention.

reply

Prick.

reply

Which is why I find it disturbing that it's far more clever and funnier than it has any right to be. The concept is beyond stupid, and it's horrible to look at, but the writing and comic timing in the first couple episodes are sometimes just plain hysterical.

As for "12 Oz. Mouse", I can only conclude it's someone's attempt to win an "I can SO make a show worse than Tom Goes to the Mayor" bet.

reply

Thanks for my new signature, zwooven :)

I couldn't have said it better myself :)

reply

12 Oz. Mouse is all about surrealism. You'd realize that if you watched it drunk or after smoking some mj. Possibly for other substances, I wouldn't know, but it's definately for unsober people. And it's wonderful, believe it or not.

I do believe I have found a new show to look forward to on Sundays. This show is so funny! I love when Earlie is talking about how beautiful his woman was. She is so nasty looking! The episode where he is looking for a job, Brilliant!!

reply

...Dana Snyder's voice work as Grannie is a masterpiece of timing and improv.
And yes, the show does exhibit quite a bit of smartness in its dialogue, case in point: the sheriff's soliloquy extolling the achievements of the white man, illustrated by the tattoos covering his body, and Earlie's ruminations about his obese ex-lover, his "muse"...come on, you don't find writing that good on prime-time TV!

reply

[deleted]

I don't think it's particularly smart, but it sure is funny.

reply

One of the better shows to watch when you're ripped.

reply

This thread is incredibly smart and hilarious.

Squidbillies is quickly becoming my favorite show on adult Swim. And people who are saying that this show isn't smart haven't given it a chance. Much like Harvey Birdman, the jokes come so fast on squidbillies that it's tough to catch them at real time (cant wait for season 1 on dvd). And the acting is right their with ATHF and Sealab.

Squidbillies, along with ATHF, Tom Goes to the Mayor, Venture Bros., and Harvey Birdman are what keep me tuning in on Sunday nights.

reply

"Now grab that sexual harrasment handbook and beat me about the groin!"

Lines like that are why I watch this show.

reply

These writers and voice actors must have southern roots. Most of the character nuances are dead on.

reply

Simple, great show.

If you don't like dont watch it. But, one of the few shows i cant wait to watch on Sundays.

reply

I'm assuming the people that don't like this show prefer to have their comedy handed to them. shows like family guy and robot chicken are all blatantly waving their hands and screaming every time they make a joke. shows like tom goes to the mayor and squidbillies do the exact opposite. these two shows provide great social commentary on television in a time where there is none with TV dominated by *beep* programs such as family guy and robot chicken.

if you have to have people point out the jokes for you, maybe you should just close the door to your home and disconnect your phone and be by yourself until the end of time.

reply

your an idiot. you like everyone else who likes this show simply have bad taste. i mean, TGTTM and Squidbillies? it must be a new record in bad taste or something!

reply

It relies on subtlety for it's jokes. As opposed to Family Guy where they actually construct an entire sentence just to deliver their jokes. I.E. "This is worse than that time I..." It's easy to set up a joke like that. Squidbillies relies on the understanding of its characters. You can laugh at the ridiculous things that Early says because you know where the writers are coming from. You have to be able to realize and identify the jokes instead of a direct joke that can possibly be applied to any character on any show. Squidbillies is great for what it is, and if you treat it otherwise, it is going to inevitably betray you.

reply

hey at least FG is entertaining and is actually pretty funny! this show is just more bs for the idiots of the AS fanbase.

reply

Oh yeah, you're right. All fans of adult swim who don't just watch the shows they get from Fox are idiots. You are totally right.

reply

being from the south, and not being sober makes squidbillies worthwile.
You stupid oakies.

reply

I love it. But does anyone outside the south like it?

reply

I'm from New England and I like it. Maybe it's my latent hostility toward rednecks, which means I can laugh in ivory tower superiority over Early while remaining a safe distance from his hunting knife, but I still think the jokes are great. I was on the floor for Dan Halen's Tool Dash video at the baseball game.

The Christmas special was a little much with the violent elf deaths, but aside from that it was pretty good.

"IT'S A TRAP!"

"No wait, come back here!"
"Screw you, Santa, what are you going to do?"
"I WILL RAIN DOWN FIRE FROM THE SKY!!"

reply

I knocked this before even though I hadn't watch more than a few minutes of it.Since a marathon is on tonight and nothing else is on even though I get a good 75 channels or more easy I watched. As someone else said when commenting on this show.I've seen real people that talk and act like this.Anyone that has watched Jerry Springer and the judge shows have heard some of the responses the characters give. This show is funny.I mean laugh out loud funny. You don't have to go South either.Go to the local mall, quickie mart,Wal-Mart,a check cashing place or a chinese food/soul food carryout and you'll see and hear many of the lines you hear on this show and The Boondocks.Earl and Jimmy are in every city.I repeat this is damn funny.

reply

The little kid who can't even spell "gangsta" just trolls back and forth through this forum expounding on how dumb everyone is, probably because he doesn't understand humor unless it's blatant and obvious. And his mommy won't explain the big words to him.

He can't spell or punctuate, but he thinks everyone else is dumb.

Someone else was wondering if this was his third or fourth try at passing the sixth grade. We should start a lottery on it.

reply

Love it, love it, absolutely love it.

If you aint like me go hang from a tree. Wooooo!
