I love this show but Jesco White was horrible.

He's been in two episodes of it that I know of as he plays Early Cuylers estranged father. The first one was pretty good but the second one was horrible. Good thing the character is dead now, good riddance. I love this show, keep it up guys, keep telling it like it is, you rock!!

You know he'll come back in a future episode and say 'Haha...Got you again!, standrkm'

"When Jesus died for our sins, he gave us all extra lives..."

reply

Probably true but he was really out of it in this episode. Maybe a hundred too many gasoline huffs. Yeah he'll probably be back, since Dan Halen already blew up the earth a couple seasons ago but look at it now, it's fine lol.

I really enjoyed his performance in the first one. He sounded very natural and seemed to be having a good time doing it. This one though... it was like he showed up late and was reading his lines for the first time. Very disappointing, as I'm usually entertained as hell by Jesco.

reply

yeah it was really strange. Maybe they just wanted to kill him off like chef in southpark and what we heard was just extra audio clips that didn't make it in the first one lol.

Just saw the new one where he comes back as a ghost, and he is absolutely terrible in this one as well. Could it really be that hard as the studio director to give him a little coaching to TRY and sound at least a LITTLE genuine?

reply

Wow, I'm glad someone else noticed this. In the first episode he sounded very natural but in the last two he sounded WAY off. Almost like a 10 year old reading something for the first time. It's almost as though he was enthused to do the first one because he thought he would have a recurring role and then he found out they were killing his character off so he was like "Fuggit", not gonna put any effort into it.

I think Jesco has gotten better at doing the studio readings but he reads on his limited level of education (he reads a scripted sentence out loud almost word for word with little inflection - like a kid with a 7th grade education) and that's what slows the flow of his humor but at the same time makes perfect sense. He's an old, confused, burned out squid, so his lines aren't going to flow as smoothly or well-timed as wild ass Early.

yeah I don't mind it so much now, now that I know the legend that is jesco white

"the day I tried to live, I learned that I was alive"

Well about him "getting better".. Wasn't his best performance the first episode he appeared in? Go back and give it a listen and compare it too the last ones. I do like the dude and the story behind him, but obvious line-reads in one of my favorite shows really stands out to me.

I do agree that his lines were delivered with a bit of a monotone. I enjoy the character though. Jesco lived, very briefly, near me. He is just as crazy as the legend portrays, but he is smarter than most people give him credit for.
