I'm just saying Fox/FX had a great duo.
Put it on Wednesday and it'll do better.

Is there any stuff on this? Like a website or something?

Still wondering what '24' or Fox had to do with anything, as 1) It was on a day later than '24', and 2) it was an hour later as well.

Couldn't have moved it to Wednesday, wouldn't that have meant displacing one of its precious CSI franchises? (Unless they moved it to 9, which would've been ratings suicide against Lost... not to mention really annoyed me, as there're already too many shows Wednesdays at 9 for me to tape with my current VCRs, and I can't watch it 8-} )

In any case... I'm rather disappointed (though can't say particularly SURPRISED...) that it's already been cancelled. Whatever happened to giving a show a chance to find its audience? When I think of how many great old shows (though I'm blanking on them at the moment lol) took half a season or more to become popular, that would've been cancelled after 3 eps in this day and age... *shakes head* Freakin' network execs...

Kevin... still upset over Firefly and Tru Calling *g*

reply

it was one directly following 24 here.

so. yeah. it could have been in compitition somewhere.

reply

Weird... are you non-US?

reply

I'm really down about this. This is the only show I looked forward to each week. It actually made being a thirty-something "cool." We are really getting lost in the shuffle.

Is there no one out there that cares about good TV anymore? Does every show have to be either a murder mystery, reality, or in a court room?

I live in the midwest, but this show really makes me want to move to New York. I think that's what a good show should do.

Oh well. Maybe it will be back, but when they say the show is on hiatus, it's not good.

Seinfeld is the only show that comes to my mind right away. In the extras of the Season 1 DVD Jerry mentions that the show would have been cancelled in the first season if it had been under the control of today's TV execs.

Yes Seinfeld is a good example. In that case it had some very high level NBC execs fighting for it, and also it was a show that was getting a bigger audience each week. They could see that Seinfeld wasn't a instant hit, but it was growing a lot by word of mouth. Sienfeld was a classic example of a show that people discussed at the water cooler.

Shows likes My so called Life and Sledge Hammer were shows that got a lot of support from high level management, but never caught on with the public. Sledge Hammer ran for two seasons with extremely bad ratings. My so Called Life would have gotten a renewal for a second season, but Claire Daines was reluntant to return (so was the rumor).

It should also be noted that series back in the 50s and 60s weren't expected to be instant hits, and given a full season to find an audience. Even series that had declining a audience (ie Gunsmoke in the mid 60s), were given new time slots that added many more seasons to their run. Back when there was only three channel to select from, two of the three show should easily have rating good enough survive the season. If not, moving the show to another time slot often could improve the ratings of a quality show.

reply

That sucks! It was a good show. There is so much crap on TV and they cancel this!? Where was in announced?

reply

I guess it was announced on Feb. 9. I agree, it does stink. Once again, a good show that isn't reality, or a murder mystery, or in a courtroom gets cancelled.

The official CBS site said the show was on hiatus. This isn't good.

its depressing, thats what it is. tv showbiz these days are just made up of cheap gimmicks and lack true substance. i looked forward to this every week after i got my fill of scrubs on nbc. but now? sux so much.

reply

yeah this is really terrible. i loved that show a lot. it was clever writing, good music, and nice plot. to me, the show was high fedelity, but slightly different.

I am a music journalist and my best friend from college just got highered as an A&R rep for island def jam records. We'd watch the show, because we're both music geeks and it's just humorous seeing something that kinda resembles life on tv. the show gave some gret inside and made some very funny commentary about the music industry.

i was really looking forward to this upcoming episode too. i love aimee mann and she wants revenge. it's too bad they couldn't atleast be cool enough to show the 4th episode.

my roomate just said "well maybe they're not showing anything right now, because of the olympics. lots of shows are doing reruns because they know that they can't compete." which i would only hope is true, but i'm not sure. i just find it sad that another clever tv show is getting canceled.

arrested development gets canned and now this show is over. i like what some of my friends have said about the general masses when it comes to watching tv, they have *beep* taste.

reply

I can't believe Love Monkey was taken from us right before the Aimee Mann episode! This is crap!!! My favorite show ever...gone so soon!!! :(

Maybe it's just on hiatus while the amazing race is on?

CBS said nothing about "hiatus." They most definitely used the c-word.

Hear hear. The first part anyway. And without the CAPS.

Last week's episode was the 1st one I caught and thought it was great. I was actually looking to seeing it yesterday. I hope it's not true that CBS already cancelled the show after 3 episodes, hope also they are not getting in FOX's habits. I got enough already of reality tv shows and was really getting into this one...

reply

"hope also they are not getting in FOX's habits"

Oh I don't think that's gonna happen, for one thing, unlike FOX, they don't have any hit shows. Also, their once heralded news department, the so-called crown jewel of the Tiffany network, was sunk in roughly the same time it took to axe Love Monkey. Nice job, Dan. Good work.

Yea seriously.
I liked Love Monkey. CBS sucks for cancelling it. I hope some other network picks it up. This show has potential.

reply

With as many nauseating commercials CBS ran for this show I'm surprised they cancelled it after three episodes.

But I'm glad. I was sick and tired of the commercials for it.

Of course anything that has remotely interesting dialog and fun characters is never given a chance this was finally to replace 'Friends"

reply

Teresa, your post makes no sense.

reply

All my favorite shows get cancelled. I dont get it. Do i have terrible taste or is it just everyone else.

reply

This was a good show and I was hoping it would stay on. Like another poster who liked AD this makes me feel like I have bad taste according to the networks.

reply

you are not alone, happens every time they come up with a good show, put on a good show and people will stop watching the "c__p" that's on the rest of the time, then what would they do??

reply

I read another station might pick this up...just when we were getting hooked. A good idea ...and a good way for musicians (teddy) to get heard. I was hoping to see all sorts of new talent. It was as close to how it really is than ive ever seen. They should've put it on some night without CSI, L&O, 24, Medium, Cold Case, Prison Break, Criminal Minds etc...but what nights are left? Maybe hbo or showtime will pick up this great show!

reply

[deleted]

Where did you read about another station picking it up? That would be tremendous. I always hoped that would happen, but at the same time, that never happens does it???
There was discussion on this board about UPN or WB picking up the show. The lack of an announcement after so many months since CBS's cancellation makes that highly unlikely now, though.

It's only been a month, so I wouldn't discount it so quickly. That said, I'm not too hopeful.

It's only been a month, so I wouldn't discount it so quickly.
But it's an important month in the production cycle. The cast and crew should have been busy that month producing new episodes. Without a network to show them on, the production company won't be spending the money on production. The longer that cast and crew sits around twiddling their thumbs at this time of yesr, the less likely it is that production will ever start again.

It's also pilot season. If they're smart, most of the cast is signing on to new shows.
