Similar to 'Drive'

Men with their own code whose lives are disrupted by the arrival of a woman into their lives.

reply

Similar traits, yes. Both films own a lot to Le Samourai.

This generic concept has been done a million times before Drive (which imo was contrived *beep*

A Bittersweet Life however, I thought was very well told.

reply

This was an actual movie though. Drive was Shoot Em Up, if Shoot Em Up was up it's own arse.

Snap, Crackle...CALL AN AMBULANCE!

reply

Hahaha hold on, Drive was like Shoot 'Em Up? What the hell are you talking about?

reply

If it was up its own arse. Same basic idea and all. Vigalante flick and such. However Drive was made by a director in love with himself. Not much happened. Wasn't even good "slow and methodical". Yellow Sea actually did that. But Drive was just, the middle of something where about two things happened. I could understand people pretending to like it because they aren't used to watching movies do what it attempted to do better. However it was a *beep* movie all said and done. Really up its own arse.

Nothing amazing ever happens here.

Having a unique directing style does not mean it's "up it's own arse". Nicolas Winding Refn did an awesome job directing Drive, and if you didn't like it... I don't know what to tell you.

reply

Having seen more than five movies in my life, it wasn't all that unique. Usually the way you direct serves an effin point. Again Yellow Sea did what Drive wanted to do better, and even that movie had several flaws.

Seriously one of the best things a director can have going for him is pace, and Nicolas has no idea how to keep it up or slow it down. He just knows how to do MTV 90's art school. I mean even Bronson was only good because of Harding.

Nothing amazing ever happens here.

reply

Please, do share some modern films that have that same style as Drive. Also, I believe you mean "Hardy" when you said "Harding".

reply

The Yellow Sea, Taboo(though to be fair more erotic thriller than anything), a lot of Ki-duk Kim flicks, the few Toshiaki Toyoda movies I've seen, Gozu...

Off the top of my head.

Nothing amazing ever happens here.

reply

It's similar in that they're both movies.

reply

Not really. One is a very good movie, the other is a pretentious crap of a movie, guess which movie is the latter?

reply

The big difference is Drive is amazing and this movie is crap. I have no idea how you can even compare these movies. It blows my mind to pieces thinking about it. I guess it's like me comparing this movie to Gigli, they're both just that awesome!(Kappa)

reply

Crap? Hahahaha
