Analysis of Favorite characters

Just want to say, I enjoyed this trilogy immensely. I would like to say a few words about my favorite characters:

1. Tecchan, segment 2 - he has the look of a loyal friend, and his actions confirm it. He knows that the Taiwanese woman is using him, but he doesn't mind being deceived a little. He is happy to be able to make a difference in her world.

2. Yun Yun, segment 3 - she left a strong impression. she comes from the working class, and it seems she is unable to attend school due to her obligations to help out the family, but it's apparent that she longs to be with her normal school-going peers. She just wanted to be comforted a little bit by him, but he didn't say anything when she transformed her hair all for him. And yet, she did not blame him. She loves him too much, and in the end the only thing she could do is say the magic words in Spanish.

The only character that striked me as bit out there is the Chinese girl Ah Min from segment 1. In her first day meeting Yao, she already told him some of her deepest thoughts, and didn't try to cover up her emotions to a stranger (see the scene where she says that she is obligated to work hard for her parents). Also, in her other scene with Yao, her final words were "Try hard, Yao. I must try hard too." I really don't know what to make of her character.

Ultimately, of the 3 short films, segment 1 in Japan won my heart due to its evocative music and sweet fairy tale. I must say though, none of the characters from that segment is very memorable, and that film did not have much to say compared to the other 2. Very enjoyable nevertheless.

Great post PiranianRose, your fave characters are exactly the same as mine! Tecchan and Yun Yun. Tecchan, for obvious reasons, he is perhaps the most adorable character I have ever seen in a movie. His efforts in Chinese were so earnest, he was just the sweetest guy.
Yun Yun at first I didn't think much of, but as the segment progressed i was just captivated by her. Never once did she overplay the innocent, cute girl thing (like so many actresses do). She was entirely natural, and her monotonous, somewhat sad life and unrequited love for the Japanese guy really touched me. Because of this sadness I found I felt most strongly towards this story. But the second one was brilliant in its own way too!
