What are the best films of the Horrorfest???

My friend and I are going this weekend, and we don't have enough money for all of the films. Which are the best?

reply

NOT this one...It was bad. Too much like the grudge.

reply

Never saw Grudge, but loved this one. If you're looking for a makes you think, creeps you out, shows some gore--then Reincarnation is perfect. But if you want a crazy bloody mess every other scene, then maybe this isn't the one. Probably Hamiltons would be better for that.

reply

I wasnt looking for gore in this. I was looking for some horror and I thought personally it was boring and predictive. There is nothing to think about IMO in this movie...

But the grudge was terrible! This was pretty tasteful.

I really liked this movie and recommend it as well as The Abandoned and Unrest.

I was looking forward to this one and felt very let down. The last 10 minutes are good, but it was too easy to see that big twist coming. And the majority of the movie is very boring and repetitive. I love J-Horror, but this movie shows why the popularity of the genre is dying out.

I agree This one was by far the best I absolutely loved it. I honestly don't think the rest should have even been in the same category as Reincarnation. It supassed the other 7.

Of the seven in the DVD set, I have seen all of them but Penny Dreadful (which I hear is "not just a clever name"). It seems there is a division in the camp. Some people love Dark Ride, and the Gravedancers and hate Reincarnation and the Hamiltons, while others are the complete opposite. Also alot of people hated Wicked Little Things, but I thought it was better than most people did. Unrest seems to be somewhere in the middle while most people just plain hate Penny Dreadful.

Here's how I'd rate them and why:

1. Reincarnation - For me it had the most chilling imagery which is what I look for, and it was also the best technically. The story made me think.

2. The Hamiltons - The story was very interesting. Some of the acting...eh, but it was also told well.

3. The Gravedancers - For pure enjoyment...minus the last 10 minutes,(and I REALLY mean, minus the last 10 minutes) this one was good. Even though that Sid guy was the worst actor I've ever seen.

4.Wicked Little Things - As I said, I didn't think Wicked Little Things was that bad. It was more watchable than I thought it would be, but maybe that's because I'd heard people ripping on it alot, and expected it to be worse.

5. Dark Ride - To me it was just kind of...eh. Seen it a million times before. But not horrible.

6. Unrest - Wow...there was so much in this that didn't make sense. Which is sad, because it had some good atmosphere. Also my friend is in it.

7. Penny Dreadful - Like I said haven't seen it so I can't exactly rate it. Not expecting great things though. I probably should have watched this in the middle.

Also, I'm about to watch Abandoned, which apparently did better than all the other films, because it got a wide release. Maybe that means it's better than the others, or simply more marketable. Honestly, think about it. Can you picture any of the above making it into theaters, for a wide release?

Your top choices are mine as well for the same reasons. The Hamiltons was easy enough for me to figure out though because I had seen a movie previously called White Skin and the story was similar. However the look of the ghosts in Gravedancers was all I seemed to enjoy about it.I did enjoy Wicked Little Things to a point. It had a decent story until the end when all was forgiven.I thought to myself what is this a fairytale or a horror flick?Although it was still my number 3 choice.I would state my opinions on Abandoned but since you have not seen it yet I don't think that would be the best idea.Let me know what you thought of it.Other than the Gore factor Unrest had nothing to offer except annoyance and confusion.

I'm working my way through the movies on video, and I'm pretty much right there with you... "Reincarnation" was by far the best, followed by "The Hamiltons" (though the "tragically hip" modelesque actors seriously detracted from the chill factor). Gotta disagree on Gravedancers--just watched it tonight and it was an embarassment! Like a Scooby Doo cartoon--only dumber! With you on "Wicked Little Things", and still need to see "Dark Ride" and "Unrest". Okay--don't gag--I kind of liked "Penny Dreadful". Yes, I wanted to slap Penny silly after about ten minutes, but it had the creepiest first 40 minutes of any feature in the festival. I literally jumped out of my seat more than once. Too bad it fell apart at the end...

What I have noticed on IMBD horror movie reviews is that there is always disagreement about what horror movies are best. In one camp you have people that prefer movies that are straight-forward, revolting, disgusting. Then you have others (like myself) who would rather see something thats surreal or genuinely haunting (whether it be gruesome or not). I don't know, any thoughts? Reincarnation was very good, not great. If you want to see that sort of horror from The Ring and The Grudge done right, like in Audition? definitely give this a try. Lot of "hai" , "hai" too so that cool.

I've seen three so far and DARK RIDE is my favorite. It's really just a fun, gory, and entertaining flick.

reply

Rinne and Dark Ride was probably the best.

What made Dark ride for me was the guy from the sandlot ("you're killing me smalls") and the "taste the crust" guy from the pizza hut commercial.

Between the two it was an endless source of laughs (made better by a caffine wiring and the late night).

The best were The Grave Dancers, Unrest, and The Hamiltons

reply

here's my order (I have yet to see the Abandoned tho) from best to worst

1. Grave Dancers
2. Wicked Little Things
3. Reincarnation
4. Unrest
5. The Hamiltons
6. Penny Dreadful
7. Dark Ride

Just rent Unrest and Dark Ride and skip everything else. Even those two are pretty bad, so rent American Nightmare and Devils Rejects instead.

last movies seen:

Hot Fuzz (5/5)
Halloween '07 (3.75/5)

I have seen Rinne, Dark Ride, The Gravedancers, and Wicked Little Things.

Rinne:It was really scary, and I totally loved it. Didn't overdue any gore effects, or "disturbing" shaky ghosts. Though I usually love those shaky ghosts I'm glad this one didn't have it. Can't wait for the remake. HAHA!

The Gravedancers:OK so I watched with my little cousins on Sci-Fi. They wanted to. A few screams were to be had, mostly by the little ones. But it was pretty creppy. The ghosts were scary as HELL!

Wicked Little Things:Now this one was kind of dissapointing. The kids weren't actual zombies, they were kinda like the little girls from Stay Alive. But don't get me started on that piece of crap. I still liked WLT though.

Dark Ride:Now, this one really pissed me off. It was supposed to be a kick ass slasher. It was the one I was looking most forward too. It just completely let me down, the deaths, the "reason" for the kills(if you want to call it that), and the end. Overall a dissapointment.
