There's no Hollywood movie that I can think of that matches this one...

There is Roxanne ’89 (based on the tale of Cyrano De Bergerac), where Steve Martin coaches another guy on how to woo the girl he himself is in love with. But in this he was never married to her. And the reason Steve doesn't woo her himself, is that he has an enormously big nose and is too self-conscious about it.

In Addicted to Love ‘97, Meg Ryan and Mathew Broderick have a similar spying set up. They get an apartment across the road, project an image of inside other apartment onto a sheet... but the rest of the story is completely different.

I don’t think either one of these comes anywhere near close enough to call Jaan-e-mann a remake.

It is actually a copy of a film, but they have changed it slightly to suit Bollywood! the film is called Addicted to Love and it starred Meg Ryan - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118556/

it's the got the same style where they live across the street and spy, i can't remember the exact story as i watched back when i was in school but this is the film it's based on!

I mentioned that one already, but apart from the flat across the road nothing is the same, otherwise Jaan-e-mann would end with Salman and Akshay gettin it oonnn! Allow me to quote me:

In Addicted to Love ‘97, Meg Ryan and Mathew Broderick have a similar spying set up. They get an apartment across the road, project an image of inside other apartment onto a sheet... but the rest of the story is completely different.
In Addicted to Love Broderick and Ryan are two jilted lovers both spying on their ex-partners, who co-incidentally are now a couple and living together. Matthew wants his girl back and Meg is hell bent on revenge, both are insanely obsessed and slowly destroy their own lives trying to achieve their goal; loosing jobs, friends and common sense. Initially the two don't like each other much but they form a pact to help each other in their respective quests and over time, surprise surprise, they fall in love. (Sorry if that’s a spoiler for anyone but if you can't work out how that movie will end within 20 minutes then chances are you still need help tying your own shoe laces!) . The Jaan-e-mann story writers may have stolen the idea of the apartment/spying on an ex, but that’s where the parallel ends.

Finally, someone saw Addicted to Love. Its a copy and don't say remade or inspired because they didn't buy any copyrights or gave credit (like bollywood do that otherwise). Even if they copy a good movie like Addicted to Love, when its a bollywood version, it will SUCK BIG TIME. But ey, bollywood can copy Star Wars and their fans will buy it and claim its original.
