relax! i'm an indian guy who happens to believe that most bollywood movies are asinine. 'Fight Club' was an excellent movie with great social commentary. If Bollywood wants to profit off of it....why not? I, for one, don't care. It won't make me appreciate the original less whatsoever.
At the end, it's still a movie.
And don't forget, Hollywood has done some terrible versions of foreign movies (except for The Magnificent Seven) as well!
Palahnuik's name's attached to it....so it looks like a remake....errr...or something of the like.

It's funny how ignorant some people are. I guess an american can't say a movie is good unless brad pitts in it. *beep* losers.

As an american i am deeply offended by this comment:

Aside from Fight Club Brad Pitt just plays a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy...plus his serious look makes him look like he needs to poo, his happy look is as though he just pinched a big one off. This film will be awesome, Bollywood films are ridiculous in their scope, the original is always there, and it will never be tainted by a shotty remake, just relax, i doubt most of these americans who are complaining will ever get the oppurtunity to see this film let alone any other Bollywood film.

Oh please. I'm Arab and live in Pakistan and I think this movie will be funny. You're not supposed to take Bollywood remakes seriously. You're supposed to get drunk and laugh at them. The original was brilliant. I'm re-reading the book right now. If you don't like the idea of a *beep* remake then don't watch it.

Eloquently put Hammad,
By the way, how does yourself as a Pakistani (is that right? or is it pakistanion?) interpret fight club? I only ask because it is an american book about american society. Unlike some europeans who are fans and live areas with similiar mentalities You are a fan who lives in an area of the world foreign to me, (and no offense, with current US politics i don't think i am invited to visit) how do you interpret the message of the book within your society? For Americans it is about how men have lost their role in society, they become mindless consumers buying stuff pathologically. The narrator's goal is to break from this endless cycle of monotomy and he is only able to do it through his imaginary friend/split personality. After realizing that he has taken things too far he shows regret (or does he?) for creating something that grew out of his control. I honestly know nothing but the basic history of India and Pakistan, mostly involing the british colonialization and Ghandi.

I am an Indian, and I loved the movie (not the Indian remake) and the book. It isn't about crass consumerism at all. That is merely a trigger that sets off his split personality. The narrator is simply tired of all the nonsense that he is supposed to go through. His life has become like a routine, which he does not need. He hardly socialises, which means he spends his time buying stuff from IKEA catalogues.
I thought it was about ordinary men who had grown tired of all this. Ordinary like the common working class or white collar job holding men, whose lives are on cruise control. They wanted life to be simple. The women played no more of a part than being sex partners. Its about everything that men have grown tired of, and how one of them looks to change it. Thats all.

David Fincher even said it is about the emasculation of men in modern society...I think we are both right in our interpretations, it is a narrative with many layers, honestly however the split personality was not a feature part of the story, it I feel was the weakest aspect of the story, almost felt like palahniuk wrote himself into a corner although I imagine that was not the case. The phrase, "I don't think another women is what we need" rings a bell. He talks about how we are always looking to find the new product, the CKY shirts, DKNY jeans, the handmade plates with little bubbles of imperfection to prove that they were built by the hard working people of...wherever. When deep space exploration takes place, it will be the corporations that will name things, planet starbucks...etc. I think while at the same time it is about what you mentioned about boring routines, it is more, it is in fact about crass consumerism, that is what creates the routines. I am happy to to hear a different interpretation though from the otherside of the world, it is neat to see how different cultures interpret the same material.
