i think it's meant to represent her curiosity when it comes to sex, as we find out later she's a virgin until she does it with said. we see that she's adventurous and confident when it comes to drugs and having fun but this is an aspect that she still has yet to explore. also by the end we see she has become sexually powerful enough to use it as a tool to express her views or, as she puts it, act as a "sexual terrorist" which is a strong way of putting it compared to her naivety at the beginning of the film.
