I'm a guy, and I found this film incredibly sexist...

Does anyone agree that this film uses pathetic and horribly icky stereotypes of women to get cheap laughs and send the wrong message to young girls and boys?...

This movie isn't sexist against women... 100% bulls hit sexism against men though

I watched it with my Boyfriend and he liked it. I asked if he wanted to turn it off and he asked, "why"? So I guess not all guys are so easily offended.

We live by the Sun, we feel by the Moon

reply

Eh....I hadn't really thought about it. It is a bit over the top here and there.

Why, do you think it's anti-male or something?

reply

Nah it's anti-female.. as evident by John Tucker's brother, who explains to Kate that when John lies to women to get them to fall for him it's ok because "he is John Tucker - and still every girl in school lines up to date him knowing what they know" (also a nice victim shaming), but when she does the same she receives all kind of flak for it. Double standards, much? Why did he never call out John on his *beep* behavior?

That being said.. it's a stupid movie with a stupid premise in all aspects, so I am not calling it out for being sexist but for being not a good movie overall lol

I think he meant more that women knew he was a liar, but they lined up to garner his attention despite this. I don't really see that as victim shaming, since they'd know going into any kind of relationship that there would be no trust or loyalty coming from John. People knew he was a liar and player, that was stated from get-go. Victim shaming would be more like a girl should've seen it coming despite no evidence of anything like that having happened before (that they knew of).

She receives more flak more because she intentionally entered into a relationship to hurt him; same end result as his usual m.o., but very different path getting there. Double standards, maybe, but not the same thing altogether.

Ha, did he just call me a Luddite?

reply

No. I think you're confusing this with THE OTHER WOMAN.

Only sissy boys get offended...

Either way - movie was not great but watchable
