JE vs KOTOR

How would you people compare these two games

story wise and control wise and fun factor

reply

I love the story in KOTOR, but I love the fighting in Jade Empire. They are both excellent games so I recommend both.

reply

JE has a much better combat system.

However, JE can't can't beat KOTOR's plot twist. It comes close, but not quite.

I've tried KOTOR, but I didn't enjoy the in-game instructions, and I didn't like the fighting. However, JADE EMPIRE is a total different story. I enjoy this X-BOX game because of its intelligent, intellectual, and rich story content. The voice acting is superb--especially that of CAM CLARKE (Sexy, sensual, intimate). The game is very personal. The interaction between the characters at times is very intimate. The characters actually make eye contact with you (your character), and if you follow the Romance path, it is very sensual, for the character actually looks at his/her partner in a shy, sensuous way, i.e., like meeting a potential lover--taking in whatever interests one in that person.

Moreover, the fighting (I enjoy martial arts) is of particular interest to me. It is real time; I don't care for strategy base games (nor did I enjoy KOTOR; the fighting seem unreal, not actually making contact with the enemy; this is the contrary with JADE EMPIRE.) This game once you've started, you can't put it down. It is very addictive in a good way. In addition, the environment in which the story takes place, is surreal, very beautiful and in some areas, breathtakingly haunting. The characters are well drawn, and very real and beautiful. CAM CLARKE's character SKY, is sexy, handsome, and totally manly, in every aspect. I could go on forever about this game.

Anyway, I'm glad that this story is rated mature, for adults can finally partake in a game that is smart, and one that provides a variety of differing outcome base on answers one selects. Hence this video game has a very high replay value. To add, I truly enjoy this type of philosophical kind of game. As far as Cam Clarke is concerned, he is always involved in complex plot voice acting games, cartoons, etc. I am recommending this game to anyone who enjoys, serious, interesting and one of a kind game that is sure to become a CLASSIC. As for me, this game is and will always be my favorite!

Ok, I was going to post on this board but you just said word-for-word what I was going to say. You liked the same exact things about the game that I did. So I was just wondering if you've found any other games like JE that you would recommend. I've beaten JE almost 7 times now and, although I love the game to death (almost literally), I will eventually have to move on. So if you have any suggestions I would really appreciate it.
Oh, and does anyone know if you can make Silk Fox fall for you (when you play as a guy) because I thought you could but I just can't pull it off. I can make Dawn Star love me when I play as a guy, and Sky practically throws himself at you when you play as a girl, but the whole Silk Fox thing isn't working.

I think I'm the only one in the world who prefers the combat system in KOTOR to Jade Empire. JE's system is more in control and more fun, I admit, but with KOTOR it's easier to stop, slow down, and pick up a strategy.

As far as the story goes, JE takes the cake. I think JE plot twist was better since it's something that makes more sense and is built up better. KOTOR's twist was good, but it raises a lot of questions, where as JE's make perfect sense.

For fun factor I'd take KOTOR, because it has more stuff to it. It only took me 20 hours to finish JE the first time where as it took me 40 to finish KOTOR (don't ask). I also like the characters in KOTOR more. JE has some wild cards that are fun, but in KOTOR you've got yourself a little family.

And a little thing to the side, people have said that the voice acting in JE is better then in KOTOR but I think KOTOR's is better. Both great for video games, but KOTOR's is better (in my opinion).

I do want to mention I loved that JE was Mature and that they could add a lot of blood. And that both games are great but very different since JE is a martial arts game and KOTOR is a Star Wars movie and therefore both are very different.

You know, I think I'm going to like being a Jedi.

I agree, I prefer the combat system in KOTOR than Jade Empire. I admit that JE was the better "looking" game in graphics, but KOTOR had a much better story.

It took me 50 hrs to finish KOTOR, and only 27 to finish JE :) Of course I'm still a newbie, but these are the styles of games I love to play.

Nothing beats a Jedi in KOTOR. That is one of the biggest reasons why I love the game. Carth was annoying though. I love Sagacious Zu in Jade Empire. He was one of the best characters to carry around during missions.

Jade Empire added a lot of blood when I played closed fisted and used the Long Sword as a weapon. Decapitating almost all my enemies almost like Mortal Kombat style was awesome.

50 to finish KOTOR? wow I did it in 21
Hopefully it takes me over 20 to beat JE, Ihate games that are too short

did you do any side quests?

I've played a lot of games, but KOTOR and Jade Empire are my two favorite. I guess Bioware is a really good company, because they are both amazing games. I love KOTOR because its Star Wars, and the plot twist was awesome, and so were the multiple endings, but JE has all that too. JE has three endings, instead of KOTOR's two, much cooler characters, (I mean honestly - The Black Whirlwind would beat Carth in a dual hands down even if Carth had a rocket launcher and the Black Whirlwind was tied to a chair), the graphics are better for JE, the combat system is better, (nothing beats Jade Golem Style) and the enemies are a lot cooler (Elephant Demons!) The only thing I can see that KOTOR has that JE doesn't is the option to take out weapons out of combat. And KOTOR is more than 10 hours longer. Still, Jade Empire is my choice for better game because its more original, and down right awesome.

*Edit* After thinking about it, I decided that I was more shocked by KOTOR's twist than JE's twist, and I thought the twist for KOTOR was a tad cooler, but Jade Empire is a better game. Totally. Just read IGN's review of 9.9 out of 10. That's the highest rating its ever given any game, higher than Halo or Halo 2 or KOTOR or anything. That's pretty impressive.

I totally agree with you! Jad Empire is my favorite game of all time. :)

KOTOR was a tad to slow for me. Remember there are no important story events until the end of Dantooine. Thats at least 4 hours into the game no matter how efficent you are. In Jade you can be done with chapter one (and the first major story event) in under an hour (if you choose to do so).
In terms of the plot twist KOTORs was more dramatic, but not necessarily any better. It was a suprising but not all that brilliant twist. Jades twist impressed me a whole lot more. It was not quite so dramatic as that of KOTOR, but made up for it by being alot more credible.

I like KotOR, but Jade Empire is a much better game, in my opinion.

As much as I liked KotOR, I have no desire to play the sequel.

You can save whenever you want in KOTOR.

As far as the plot twists go, I enjoyed KOTORs more. It showed you flashbacks of little hints you've been given throughout the game, before finally showing that you were... well, if you beat the game.. you know. It did raise a little more questions, but that's what I liked about it. A lot of things were still a mystery and that gave reason for a sequel (which, I admit still left a lot of unanswered questions, but that may give way to another sequel :)).

For Jade Empire, the plot twist was also surprising, but I wasn't too dazzled by it. It didn't make a big deal out of it.

What I enjoyed about KOTOR was the fact that you could change your weapons and armor. That's something that would have made Jade Empire a little more fun. Or if you could at least raise the level of your followers too b/c they were kind of weak in JE.

I definitely enjoyed the fighting in JE more than KOTOR, but that's not to say I didn't enjoy the fighting in KOTOR. Like in KOTOR when you fight with a lightsaber against some other guy with a melee weapon, they actually block the attacks and the fighting is all very choreographed (sp?), as apposed to JE where you do a generic block attack.

I also liked KOTOR because it was more non-linear. You could go to any planet in any order you wanted. In JE you had to follow a set path.

As for story, I think they were both equally good. Both kept me interested all the way from beginning to end.

Final Verdict: If you were going to get either one or the other, my suggestion is.. get both. KOTOR shouldn't be that expensive, especially if you buy a used one, and JE is getting cheaper also. Both are awesome.

You can save whenever you want to in Jade Empire also.

I know you can save whenever you want in JE, it's just that the guy that posted above me said he likes games like JE where you get to save whenever you want and I just said that you can do it in KOTOR also.

Whoops, sorry.
