Which side do you prefer?

This isn't a real active board so I doubt anyone would mind if I post another thread starter... And if you do too bad 'cause I am. And just so you know, yes I am rather bored...

Basically, which side do you like to play on? Open palm or closed fist? You get different followers following one of the different paths and all, different sidequests and the game might even be easier combat wise playing a certain way (different styles and all), and naturally there's the entertainment value.
I prefer the Open Palm way myself, mainly because more people like you and it's easier to make your followers like you, although some don't seem to care either way. Also, when you stand still as a follower of the Closed Fist you get that weird tenticle thingy in your shadow and which is cool on the principle of it but I don't like the idea of being that evil... I prefer the halo of the Open Palm. But I will add I think the coolest magic style is unfortunately on the Closed Fist side (Tempest, I love that style.) So... Does anyone else have preference?

I now predict that this thread will get a grand total of... 2 posts... We shall see...

Open Palm- Jade Empire
Light-Side- KOTOR 1 & 2
Fable- Good(thinking of evil just to get the Sword of Aeons)

I've only played this game once because when I started on Closed fist, it seemed just like a *beep* around to me and I couldn't handle being nasty to everyone the whole way through ^_^ And, seeing my friend ("Hey guys, one question... When does Jade Empire come out?" - "It's out, we completed it") complete it on Closed fist with a big frog by his side didn't really entice me...

So yeah I prefer Open palm... Then again, I prefer the good/light in everything. AND, I couldn't bring myself to strike down the sister in Fable :( I love her!

And thus... with the second post the prophecy is fulfilled... and now gold shall rain from the sky and Bruce Campbell shall come to my door telling me all the latest news on Evil Dead IV and Johnny Depp shall wisk me away to Scotland where he and Jon Stewart shall dance in kilts and play the bagpipes.

Dammit. Wrong prophecy. Oh well.... Back to my own topic, the only game I can actually play evil and enjoy it is in KOTOR II for some reason. I can't bring myself to do evil things or be rude in Fable... I can blame that on my parents, I suppose. And KOTOR just breaks my heart when I play darkside. I can't stand to kill my party members...

The thing that pissed me off most about killing my party members was that they only took like one flurry and gave me something like 50 exp... I mean, come on, I've been training them for 20 levels and that's the best they could do? I have yet to be dark in KOTOR II and last time I was _gonna_ play as dark but I started thinking about Hanharr and how I loathe Wookiees :D... And Peragus... Which is *beep* because I have a fresh save with Peragus completed but it's as a woman and I wanted to play as Jesus again :(

You don't mind if I come along to Scotland yeah? ;)

Ugh... You know Juhani once nearly killed me toward the end of the game when you fight them; I was at level 20 and was a counsular and Bastila wasn't helping one bit. Jolee, Mission, and Zaalbar are easy though... And what's wrong with Wookees? Yea, they're not as nice to look at as Mira but Hanharr is better in combat and at times can be more useful then her (there's a cheat where he can get infinite intelligence and then he basically excells in every skill you can give him, very handy). It's really fun to be evil in that game for some reason.... Perhaps its corrupting your teammates... And the fact you get to kill Vrook. That bastard.... That must be why it's so enjoyable on the other side.
And umm... When you say play as Jesus I assume you mean the bearded Exile, right? Out of all the male exiles to choose from he's probably the best lookin' of the bunch at least. That had nothing to do with anything but oh well... Peragus has got to be one of the most tedious levels on any of the games I've played and it only takes... Actually I forget, I think I wrote it down some where to prove a point, but it was still longer then it should've been. It's at least 6 hours before you get off Telos if you do the sidequests I think... Yea...

And everyone is free to journey to Scotland... The holy land that shall one day conquer the world...

:O! You know when my friend (hereon, J.) first bought Knights we had to bug him and persuade him for weeks to actually play it and even two of us completed it before him. Well, eventually J. played it and made a Consular. Finally after like months of pissing around he got to the Leviathan and ended up face to face with Malak. Now, you gotta know, me and my other friend (hereon, D.) beat the first Malak in one or two hits and I'm sure you diposed of him easily enough ;) Anyway, J. finally got to him after weeks and weeks and got *beep* all over the joint. Mainly because Malak is immune to force and we told J. this but he wouldn't listen (which is wierd because I found out recently MY first char was a consular but I remember still disposing of Malak with ease.) But yeah, we laughed at him a lot...
I find Wookiees EXTREMELY annoying and whiney (aaaarroouhg, wooooohoahho wowrarraah) at least if they growled a little more, you know. And thier names, I mean, come on, "Rrrawraaghr" and erm... "the other ones."
Yeah, Jesus rules, he's the first decent looking male portrait in the series and he looks goooood (it's guuuuud *Bruce Almighty style*.) That's why it took me 3 play throughs of Knights to finally play as a male >.>... and I was the long haired one that looks like a clean shaven Jesus. Imagine like, that little crappy Atton-looking one becoming Revan and ruling the galaxy ^.~
I stayed at D.'s house the other day and about 10 he started Peragus. By the time I went to sleep at about 2 he had just finished >.< You think like, yay the Ravagers here I'm half way... But you're NOT! You still got the turbolifts and gotta get Atton and Kreia and fight HK and go all the way to Sion and get T3 back >.< >.< Telos is kinda crap as well yeah.

I gotta get me an oldmans cart if I'm journeying to Scotland, it's too slanty everywhere and tires me out.

Hey! I'm actually kind of like your pal J. there... The first time I played I was a consular ("Lots of force powers must be good!" Oh how naive I was...) and I may have gotten through the Leviathan ok (I don't remember by now), I couldn't beat Malak the second time, on the Star Forge, at all. I use the excuse that I had no flipping idea of what I was doing, which is true, so I ended up re-starting the game and in the end it took me twice as long to finally end the game. >.< Needless to say, even since I've been relunctant to play as a consular. The one time I finally do I get beaten down by Juhani! I hate playing as a consular in the first game... Really hate... It's even worse if you're a Scoundral and a consular. Gah... It's not so bad in KOTOR 2 though. Go figure.
Personally, I find the Wookiees annoying in numbers and if they only say the same thing. The Kashyyyk's Wookiees group "WE DON'T LIKE OUTSIDERS!" gets old in about five seconds... But I can handle one-on-one discussions. With Zaalbar and all... Again, Hanharr is handy and fun for a least one game. If nothing else try to be neutral on Nar Shaada and then after you've got Mira turn DS and see how that goes. Although it might be hard to turn her to a Jedi. Eh.
I hate how there's hardly any good looking males in these games. There's hot chicks you can play as, naturally where's a game without hot girls, but males? Oh no... The Jesus man actually reminded me of Ewan McGregor (From Scotland) in AOTC and ROTS, you know... Star Wars and all. But he looks like a trimmer Jesus too. Thus proving, Ewan is Jesus and that Scotland is indeed the holy land. Heh... But back on subject... When/if they make KOTOR 3 I hope they make some more attractive males to choose from. Why would Bastila fall for a man who looked like that?? (Yea, I know looks aren't everything but seriously! Some of those faces are just plain repulsive!) The long haired guy is definitely the best looking from the original bunch. Nearly everyone I know when they play as a guy either play as him or the bald black guy (with a purple lightsaber of course. Play as Ewan and Samuel L. Jackson. Maybe in the next one there'll be one who looks like Anakin. o.O)
I have to give Telos the fact it's got some fun sidequests, but Peragus has nothing. No real sidequest anyway. If they ever decide to re-release the game (Which they more then likely will due to the money they'd make) they better find a way to make it shorter or more entertaining.

Don't forget the golf club. They love golf. And throwing logs. Better work on the lower back strength there mate (Lift with the kneees!). ;-)

Well, whadda you know, every single one of my characters has been a scoundrel :D Mainly because they got persuade which I think is the best skill in like EVAH!~ I believe I've had (in order, no less) a Consular, a Guardian and a Sentinel. So far, Guardian has been funnest due to the fact in a populated area you can force jump all over the place like a frog :D ("Zidane, I catch frogs?" - "Frogs again? Yeah, sure, just for a little while." *Quinas theme* bom bom bombom bom, bombom bombombom bom, do do dur, do dur, do dur, do DUH dun dun dur duh* "You done Quina?" - "It's pretty easy to catch frogs here, I done catching." Final Fantasy IX Roxorz, I'm at Ipsen's Castle on the 4th playthrough :D)
On this recent play through of Knights, Mission and Zaalbar actually kind of grew on me (after hating them the first two playthroughs)... But then again, I hated Carth and Bastila AND Atton the first time but now I love them all :D
Force powers are good though, like when you gotta fight Yuthura and Uthar on Korriban and you don't even move, you just stand there Waving and Killing and Shocking >:D Or when you gotta kill Reelas (?) and his men after you find out he's been using you through the Genoharadan (yes, I've gone alone everytime and not moved from the spot once) That's why I wanted to do that infinite exp cheat in the crazy flashback cave on Korriban in Knights II, but being Jesus, I was light side and light sides force power doesn't regenerate in there ^_~
The only two decent, respectable looking guys in Knights (the clean shaven Jesus and the bald Oriental guy with the handle bar moustache) were commendered by J. on either one of his play throughs... So that put me off them for that amount of time. Purples my colour ;)

Ok, I liked the golf club and caddy and costume in GTA: Vice City... And I pimped up one of the caddys in San Andreas 8-)

Oh yeah, I would buy a re-release of Knights II without a doubt.

I don't like Ewan much at the moment... Probably because he said Eps I and II were *beep* but he still starred in them *scratches head*

Eh, I like Scoundrals all right, but I don't like Scoundrals mixed with consulars. Scoundrals and sentinels are a good mix though... I love how you're so short when you're a Scoundral. Being short is fun. Most of the time, when choosing a character to start with a Scoundral or a Soldier is the best option, since one excels at killing and one excels on skills... Scout's are too in the middle to really consider for a main character, in my opinion, although it's ok to use then once in a while... Like if you want repair skills or computor skills and don't want to be a consular. Force Jump is really fun. Although I liked playing as a sentinel. When I was a scoundral and sentinel, well, let's say I finally learned the usefullness of Stealth and collecting those mines.
That's one of the reasons one should play KOTOR more then once. You find out new things, lots of foreshadowing, new quests, and one may like characters more after playing with them more... In the first game I hated Bastila but now I really like her... To an extenet... They are times I wish to remind her that in the end, I'm the one whose going to decide whether she lives or dies... But most of the other characters, at least for me, got better the more playthroughs. Embarrassing enough I didn't get any romance with Carth until my third time as a girl so before then I thought the 'romance' was just cheap flirting. And HK got a whole lot better from the first game once one talks with him, since he was kind of useless in battle...
Wow I wrote a lot. Didn't mean to do that. And still going... Hm...
Yea, you're only going to go up a few levels if you're lightsided in that cave. Which is fine though, since you really don't need too many levels anyway. But it is kind of fun to get out of the cave and then level up the other characters. By the time I was done, when I went as far as my patience would allow, Kreia had every lightside power available and several neutral powers too. Quite handy.
Sigh. Really, they need to make better male character choices... I can't stress that enough... *shakes head disapprovingly at game*. Why aren't any of your guys hot?? You made Carth and Atton reasonably attractive, why not Revan and the Exile?!? Sheesh.

Ewan really said that? I always read about how excited he was to be in the films and how it was his dream, etc. etc... Then again, that was before Phantom Menace came out, I think.... I guess then he studied Alec Guinness a little too well, hm? ;-) Both are still pretty good actors though... In my own opinion...

Yes. The golfers in Scotland are just like the guys in GTA. Yup. Yea....... I actually haven't played that so I can't comment any further then the sarcastic note of people in Scotland being anything like the people in those games... *Blushes a bit* Heh...

The thing about Scotland, though, is they have Jedi on their side now! Ewan and Liam Neeson (ok, he's Irish, but he's still a Celt!) I can picture the training now...
Student: So what do I do if they have guns?
Ewan: Arrr... Kill the bastard!
Student: And if he has grenades?
Ewan: Arrr... Kill the bastard!
Student: And if he wants peace and offers a treaty?
Ewan: Arrr... Kill the bastard!
Student: You know, I think I'm going to like being a Jedi.

And thus the story of my first and longest living signature is told. Thank you. Good night. Well... morning really but that doesn't have same ring to it, does it? Hope your eyes didn't bleed while reading this! TTFN!

I know I started this by bringing up other games but this is a Jade Empire board and not a KOTOR board.

Call me a nit-picker.

I don't think I've played as a scout yet but I'm not 100% sure. I've never leveled up Stealth and Awareness in KOTOR and last time Juhani managed to get a good 25 Awareness, which was nice :D
I do use computers a lot though, and security... And repair, demolitions, persuade and treat injury. What I like about KOTOR II is that you get exp from mines and doors and I generally level up from them :) but in KOTOR you don't :( First time I got the romance with Carth was the second play through and it never occured to me you could do it with Bastila as a man as well...
Yeah, I think he said something like "The first two were *beep* but the third one is good." But not in those words. Come to think of it, most people say that... But they're all pretty much the same and they all are good.
Hmm, not a KOTOR board huh? Well, I just saw The Island (that's not KOTOR ;)) which is better than I thought it would be and Ewan's pretty good in that, although his American accent sucks big time. Of course, he isn't better than Buscemi or Scarlett <3

I was watching Tenchi at 3:50 am :D

Fable was kinda cool on evil, because you were this massive red glowing demon thing and killed whole groups of enemies without trying. I didn't like that girl anyway, so I had no problem chopping her down >:D

I hope you like Jade Empire ^_^

No, no, no! The way of the Closed Fist is the true path! You get Death's Hand, plus it's more fun. Being good in games can be boring. Closed Fist!

Nope. But you can get Yah Zen or whatever Chai Ka's enemy's name is being good and not getting any closed fist points. Plus, he's more powerful than Chai Ka and has the coolest voice in the game...

I greatly prefer to be on the Open Palm side. I just don't like being evil, although I did play it through being evil once. It was very fun, and I loved being intimidating, but I didn't like killing my friends, much like in Knights of the Old Republic. Another reason why I like being nice is that I can get the Stone Immortal magic. I think it's better then the Tempest magic for Closed Fist characters. I use it all the time and it is quite cool and powerful. I also like the blue halo above my head. I just overall like being on the Open Palm side, although I like the Closed Fist side too. Just not as much.

VERY hard decision for me. Both sides had great endings. I think I preferred the way of the Open Palm, though, just because it came more naturally to me.

Actually, I did find that finding a sort of medium was nice, too. It fit me more than anything else, actually, as I was able to make smart-ass comments without being a particularly evil guy. And the Princess (Fox) is hot.

reply

I always seem to think that the evil way in all these games (jade empire, KOTOR) is so absurdley evil its a little less realistic. And I know I shouldnt take games where you are a jedi or accompanied by a little girl that turns into a monster to realistically, but there is no realistic evil sayings. For example if a character says to you "what time is it" Its usually "I dont know" or "Im gonna kill your family if you say another word"..... i know it doesnt really matter but it just kinda bothers me sometimes. but i still love these games

reply

personally i am always CF or DS. In both KOTOR it's fun being bad and although this has nothing to do with the thread but HK rocks. And the CF path also rocks as a previous poster said you get Death's Hand.
