Jay Mohr's Performance...Comed ic Timing at its Finest

...in my opinion, that is, and I'm wondering how many people agree with me. I thought he was outstanding; unfailingly funny in his expressions, delivery, etc. He more than did justic to the dramatic/melancholy-toned "Cousin Mike" moments as well. I like Jay Mohr in general but in this movie, specifically, I think, to use an appropriate cliche, he absolutely shines.

Semi-unrelated note: I'm not usually the greatest of John Leguizamo's fans but HIS performance impressed me to say the least. I suppose I'd say his role was as dramatic as Jay's was comedic (though neither role was exclusively so) & if I had to recast, only allowed to keep TWO of the original cast members (yes, I realize this is not realistic!) it would be these two guys. Mohr & Leguizamo are in peak form.

Anyone else feel compelled to agree, disagree??

I thought that they were all great in their respective roles, but Jay MOHR, did steal the film. Ed Burns has also stated this in interviews. Jay is hysterical as 'Cousin Mike'.

I honestly couldn't answer who I would replace if I was given the opportunity. I thought Ed was great as usual, Matthew Lillard was excellent playing a more serious role. Donal Logue was excellent.

I can't wait till it gets out to Australia so that I can see it again.

Well. For some reason, I never liked Jay Mohr's characters in other movies and I really can't tell you why. It's just one of those things.

However, I just came back from seeing "The Groomsmen" and I also agree that his performance was OUTSTANDING! His character was played with excellent comedic timing and delivery and was just very funny and likable. It could have easily drifted and been played over the top but was rather done "spot on" by Mohr. Bravo.

All the characters were great. ALL of them! This includes the father, the 2 kids, the wives, etc. This was a solid "coming of age in your 30's" movie. It also captured the neighborhood, blue-collar feel of the East Coast to a T.

Jay Mohr was amazing. Throughout the movie i had to keep myself from laughing out loud at his scenes. "Hey, practice in 1 hour. IN MY GARAGE! (moons lillard). and when he pissed in topcats car. so great.

reply

The way he was standing in front of the ex's brother before he got socked in the stomach! I'm still laughing!

Yeah, I can't really stand Ed Burns, but the rest of the ensemble made this movie surprisingly decent.

My favorite Mohr quote was when he was practicing drums in the garage late at night.

Neighbor: "Stop playing. You suck!"

Mohr: "I know I suck. That's why I'm practicing!"

Jay Mohr was so funny in this movie....I have never enjoyed Jay Mohr onscreen more than in this movie and that incoudes JERRY MAGUIRE. I loved when he dropped Leguizamo (TC) off at his dad's hosue and before he drives away, he screams at the top of his lungs, "Gay Power!!!" That was hysterical. He and Leguizamo worked wonderfully together.

Funny, I came to this board to note how awful in particular I thought Jay Mohr was. Extremely annoying accent and mannerisms. High school play-calibre performance.

Jay Mohr is funny in the way cancer is funny.

If that extra 't' in butt was intentional, good one.

When I first started watching Jay Mohr as the host of Lip Service, couldn't stand him. Ever since his turn as Bob Sugar I think he has matured and excelled in ways I never knew possible. Especially in how he helped make Last Comic Standing enjoyable. Now with his sitcom he is finally good enough to be awesome.

My favorite Cousin Mike moment was when he calls topcat a dick right before he gets punched and the way he ran away i thought was hilarious.
