Donal Logue and Mohr: abrasive actors? Movie more of the same

I just saw this movie, and I liked it, but somehow I just can't get past not liking these guys. I don't care what film either of them are in, they always seem to play the same, but slightly altered, more annoying version of themselves! I haven't liked Donal Logue since I first saw him in the Tao of Steve, and I haven't ever liked Jay Mohr, although I think this is the best thing I've seen him do. Donal Logue playing a crass, jerky character that blames other people for his problems, never really takes ownership of his completely inappropriate behavior or lack of communciation to others, smirks throughout a film, while we are to believe women all over are willing to put up with this behavior inspite of his (many) shortcomings, isn't really a stretch, is it?
Also, love Ed Burns, but the "guy getting married" or "guy that just got married" with some family issues, is really played out. He also seems to always play the same typecast character. Why he keeps doing that to himself as a director, who knows.
The best things in this movie were John Leguizamo and Matthew Lillard.

I agree...though I will also admit that I have never enjoyed Jay Mohr more than I did in this movie. I also thought Matthew Lillard's role was totally thankless and should have been bigger.

I think his role was originally bigger, if you look at the promotional photos, they only feature hi character, Des and his wife and at least two cut scenes!

1 1/2-year-old post, but I agree with you. Hard to say whether not liking the characters played by Logue and Mohr is a tribute to their acting ability, or the guys themselves are just pricks and that "shines" through their acting. As for Ed Burns, he does indeed play pretty much the same character every time. I see him as a young Irish Woody Allen. He needs to broaden his horizons as he did in "Saving Private Ryan." But in the films he writes or directs, he is the same selfish whiny Irish Catholic self-obsessed tool.

I was all set to watch this because the cast looked good and....after about 5 minurtes and a zillion "F" words and the abrasive, combative actors yelling , I quit watching. How can this be enjoyable? I would rather stick a hot poker in my eye.

You're all right. They're annoying...LOL.

IDK if that's how they are in real life or they think this is how people on Long Island act all the time, but they're overdoing it.

Michael Rappaport is the same way, he acts the same in every movie. And even though he is a NYC guy, he also overdoes it.

Lot of yelling in this movie...LOL.
