casting non-latins ?

With all of the talented latin actors around, why was this movie casted with almost all non-latin actors? I thought Natalie Portman was ridiculous. And then a Swede is cast as Goya ????? Very good movie but i was thrown off by this old tradition that Hollywood cant seem to break.

At least Javier Bardem, who is Latin (Spanish) plays Lorenzo, so we can be thankful for that.

As far as I know, Goya actually looked quite similar to the Scandinavian actor who played him in this film. So I don't see a big problem here. You could rather lament about the film being in English.

Almost all non-Latin actors? ...Only six of the Spanish characters were played by non-Latins. Seriously, if you look at the cast list, around 80% of the actors are Spanish.

Also, I don't think Natalie Portman counts as an "all-white" actress since she's from Israel and actually Jewish. Plus Randy Quaid and Stellan SkarsgÄrd looked just like King Carlos IV and Francisco Goya. I have no problem with the casting since they looked so similar.

Joseph Bonaparte was played by a British actor, but I see no problem with that since he looked just like Joseph and French people don't exactly look that different from Brits.

Latin is a language. It was never a people.

Spanish is in Europe - European actors played the parts - that's perfectly fine with me.
