Would Lisa have been charged if Carlos were to report her?

Let's say this scene with the hot grits were to happen in real life:

The abusive man comes barging in and slaps her kind of hard just like he did. In response, she throws the hot grit and hits him with the pan 7-8 times in anger.

Assuming that the redness in the girl's face after the slap goes away and while the guy probably now has 2nd degree burns, can she still get in trouble and both get charged with assault or will her self-defense claim still worked?

Indeed Carlos deserved did but what could have happened if the hot grits have been reported too?

Sure Lisa could have been arrested and charged. Depending on the state you live in, Carlos doesn’t even have to press charges, the police can do it themselves. It didn’t look like Lisa kept any proof of her abuse, just word of mouth, and not that much of that. She would have to prove the self-defense, and he would have to be actually attacking her physically at the moment, not just verbal threats.

Probably not since she was defending herself. Hot grits or not, she had stop him from coming at her again so she fought back with what she had available. Which is why grits were great...can't say it was premetitated since it's a common breakfast food and she was cooking breakfast.

Who Cares.

I think she would have. Pour hot grits on him would burn him significantly and he would have a lot of leverage pressing charges.

I think if she would only hit him once with the pan and left, it would be a case of self-defense since he would not let her leave if he had not been hit. But Tyler Perry seems to like these kinds of female characters who are constantly abused until they finally snap and overkill the situation.
