Just one question...

I haven't seen this movie, i'm probably not going to, but I was just wondering one thing...

is this another sorry attemp by hollywood to try and make us sympathize w/ a monster like Ide Amin? I mean they have made lots of movies where they try and make the ppl. look at a sitituation from the bad guys point of veiw and personaly it drives me crazy. So does this movie just try and say, "OH, that murdering, bloodthirsty, genocidel psycho wasn't so bad"?

reply

I don't think so. It's more from the young doctor's point of view - how he deals with the situation as he becomes aware of what Amin is doing.

Vague response, sorry. It displays the various facets of Amin's personality, but not in a particularly sympathy-inducing way. In my opinion.

I think it deals with the doctors point of view BUT shows how Idi Amin slowly declined into realising his madness. His obsessions to takeover him and although you never see the real him, you are given glimpses. However, no sympathy. None for the Doc either.

I think it shows how beautiful the african culture and more specifically the ugandan culture is. But it also shows how corrupt things are over there, and how extremely violent it is.

i had sympathy for the doctor. He wasn't evil. He was just an idiot....he was irrisponsible and did things without thinking about the consequence i.e. sleeping with the mans wife.

Chris Brown, YOU SUCK!

By no means does this try to make you sympathize with him. He is portrayed as a monster who you wouldn't mind flipping the switch on yourself by the end.

I had absolutely NO sympathy for him whatsoever. In the beginning the viewer is to be deceived as the lead character is into thinking Amin is a good guy. He's chummy, charming, and powerful.

Midway you realize he is bloodthirsty and willing to kill anyone that he PERCEIVES to be standing in his way.

No, in no way he doesn't seem likable, not even compared to hitler. Perhaps its be cause he asks for sympathy while killing everyone around him.

I think you need to remove the stereotypes and whatever review you read and take a look at the movie. I highly recommend it.
