Garfield 2 Successful in China

It appears the second Garfield movie has done extremely well in its Chinese release. From the official site's news section:

Holy Hunan Province, Cat-man! Garfield 2 (released in the U.S. as Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties) has become the new record holder for an animated film in China. The box office record was held by Disney's The Lion King until Garfield made his mark in China. The best part is, Garfield accomplished the goal in just under three weeks. The Lion King's record was 41 million yuan ($5.12 million US) and Garfield toppled the record with 46.4 million yuan.

Garfield 2 also had the biggest first weekend box office ever for an animated film in China. The film, which opened August 11th, came in #1 in China and also shattered box office records in Shanghai.

The dubbed version of the Twentieth Century Fox/Davis Entertainment film has lines that are translated into Chinese buzzwords, which is of great interest to Chinese audiences.

How about that. Looks like any chance of a sequel is very possible at this point. Or maybe a rise within the Garfield franchise.

I think this is a great moment (or will bring future great moments) for Garfield. I did happen to enjoy the second movie more, after all.

I read about it. And am proud and glad to be a Garfield Chinese Fan! I recently bought the DVD a few days ago and watched it a lot of time. Prince is just too cute and funny.
