Why don't they let anyone with half a brain make the movies?

Seriously why don't they let anyone with at least a bit of talent do the Writing/Directing... this was even worse than the first one...
WTF was up with all the talking animals everywhere? I wanted to watch GARFIELD not "Babe". What does ANY of this have to do with the comics in fact other than the characters used and some similarities in the "lasagna/Pooky"-department, but that's the least one can hope if you make a movie about a PRE-DEFINED character... Where's Garfields general hate against all living things and the world, where's his cynicism and sharptongued remarks? Why doesn't John seem the least bit like a looser and why is Liz incredibly hot and about to marry him instead of well...doing her thing? Why didn't they animate Odie or made him look more like... Odie... And where's the general "cleverness" of the story? And why are most of the persons all "happy-like" during the entire movie with them repeatedly singing and dancing out of no apparent reason when they should mostly look "bored" or "depressed"?

Why do people today have to sell franchises to morons for filming them and make a bit of money if they can invest a little more and make a ton and in the process also actually make a ENJOYable movie... (See Transformers, Batman Begins and some more of the latest examples).
