Standard Sub-Plot: Genetic engineering gone bad?

Based on one of the pictures on the official web site, plus a lifetime of watching good and bad horror movies, "The Breed" seems to be based upon a pack of wild dogs that hunt down the human visitors to their island. But wait, there's more...

After the dogs' initial attack, Michelle Rodriguez's character and another discover a secret, abandoned laboratory (!), and learn that these agressive mutts are part of a genetic-engineering-gone-bad. Originally developed to make the dogs more _________ (fill in the blank), it instead made them extra smart and aggressive, killing all of the original lab scientists. Can these college students match wits against the clever canines? Will any of them live to get off this island? Are there any significant plot details about this film that we can't predict based upon the trailer? Sheesh!
