Probably gonna get shot down big time for this but I have casting suggestions.
The son - Brandon Routh
The Father - I have absolutely no idea. Needs to be someone who could pass themselves off as Routh.
Neither will probably be cast, but I think they'd be fine in this film.
Well Tom Welling is a red sox fan. But I think he'd be a hard sell. He really hasn't broken through beyond "male model turned actor" territory.

I'm not a fan of his and simply don't think he's good enough to do this story justice!
What about the role of the father? Who should play that?
