It's not the "kind" of book I'd read either (I'd never let myself make it past the title) - but the movie's trailer interested me.
That it was based on Nick Flynn's work (whom I'd never heard of before) just gave it...credibility, with a certain degree of license to the director to tell the story his way without pointless musing from me. Dano was in 'Cowboys & Aliens,' and I wanted to see any difference in his acting. DiNiro is always an interesting study, and I guess I'm also a Wes Studi fan. The actress who played Denise I found to be stunningly pixie cute. The movie, for me, was more interesting than entertaining.
