Obviously the old Flynn was mentally ill. He was narrow minded, egocentric, racist, homophobic, megalomanic, unwordly, kept repeating himself, thought he was 28 years old, etc. I've been waiting till the end of the movie for someone to take him to a shrink or provide some other kind of mental help. Why does everybody treat this man as if he's a normal person with just am unpleasant character?
shareI don't think they do. I think it's clear that he suffers from some type of mental illness. But you can't help someone, through that or anything else, unless they let you. And he was a stubborn, proud, unstable man who was not willing/able to acknowledge that there was anything wrong with him or that his delusions of grandeur were just that.
I think they provided what help they could for him but the sad reality is that a lot of people who could benefit from treatment never get near it for those very reasons.
