What is Zatch? I never saw the first epi. He looks like a doll and is kept in boxes and bags, but people call him a kid and he ates! What are momodos?

Zatch is a mamodo. A mamodo is a demon child.

If you saw the first episode, you could see at the end of the episode while Kiyo is washing Zatch's hair he finds horns hidden in his hair. Thats clearly enough evidence that Zatch is a demon.

A mamono is a demon, and a mamononoko is a demon child in Japanese.

All demon children are called mamononoko originally in this story.

No one knows why they adopted mamo"d"o instead of mamono in dub.

They used Mamodo instead of Mamono for religous issues about demons...oO

He isn't kept in boxes and bags. That was his way of disguising himself when he followed Kiyo to school.
