Greatest show on TV

Has anyone else heard of this show? I watched it for the first time last sunday. It's extremly brilliant how they take old Kung Fu movies, edit and dub them over to create new story lines and infuse it with hip hop and modern day humor.

It *is* pretty tight. Been watching it for about a year now.

reply

Is it still on? What channel. I used to watch it on Fuse and I loved most of the episodes.

reply

I love it. Especially the title. Funny, I usually deteste puns.

I don't feel I need to wipe out everyone. Just my enemies.

reply

I think it was a great idea but the execution was bad. I hate the way they cut it all up. I could make it better.

reply

I love this show too! I have some questions though, for anyone in the know:

-How many episodes did they end up airing? (I saw it on Fuse as well) I think on the kung faux website they advertised as having 10 or 15 made in total. Anyone seen all of them?

-Apparently you can order the DVDs of all the episodes, except the only one I've been able to get ahold of is Vol 1, with the 'Ill Masta and Boxcutta episodes on it. (The greatest two eps I ever saw, IMO) Did they give up on producing the rest of the DVDs? Or do they exist, and can be bought?

I agree. When I heard the premise I thought it had potential. Then I got a chance to watch it and it was corny as hell. If you want to watch people making fun of old movies check out Mystery Science Theater 3000 instead.

Anyone who thinks Mystery Science Theater 3000 is better than Kung Faux is either on crack or probably still wears acid wash jeans and sports a mullet.

You probably also think that piece of crap rip off of Kung Faux called Kung Pow is a good movie too.

People seem to alwyas overlook the fact that the people doing the voice overs on Kung Faux are not just dudes, but actually some of the most critically acclaimed hip hop artists of our time.

I mean cone on, Afrika Bambatta, Biz Markie, Jean Grae, Masta Ace, & Grand Master Roc Raida all in the same room together to knock this out of the park? God I wish I could have been there to see that. I hope they make some behind the scenes stuff from the recording sessions available on the dvds.

I just went to Amazon to pick up the dvd for this show after catching it on the Starz movie channel and they had a link to here which i decided to follow because i wanted to see if they had more episodes in production and although i can't really tell if they do or not Amazon does show they have like five dvds coming out over the next few month and I plan to pick up all of them.

And,I just couldn't let a comment about MST3000 being better than Kung Faux go by without sending a smack back. It blows me away that people with such whack taste can just proudly go around spewing their ignorance, but then again I guess the leaders of government go around doing the same thing and someone had to vote them into office, so now we know who you are.-Thanks for nothing.

Yes, Kung Pow a rip off of Kung Faux...learn your dates noob.

Both are great, but Kung Pow's date is 2002, Kung Faux didn't start till 2003.

GG.

Yeah because MST3K caters to the mullent wearing audience wtf are you talking about?

No that movie sucks as well.

I am aware of that still doesn't mean that they're funny.

So anyone who doesn't like Kung Faux voted for Bush, yeah that makes sense . Stop making generalizations.

I thought i would be offended by this show Kung Faux, i admier martial art films. But i was surprised that it was very funny and well done.

Kung Pow was just a bad movie taking a jab at martial art films.

MST3K was a very funny show and great show, always loved the comments thay did on the Godzilla movies.

Lord Sear killed it on this show. He is the Good Will Hunting of black comedy.

I bought the first DVD of this thinking it would be old school kung fu films re-cut to voice-overs that said funny absurdities as events were unfolding. Essentially, the films are actually recut with lots of allegedly "funky" weird colours, transitions, and framing by someone that seems to have the attention span of a 2 year old who just can't leave the "slide weird coloured segment in here" button alone, and the voiceovers are saying pretty much exactly what the original said, but "ghettoed" up. This means the voice overs aren't saying anything actually funny. We're meant to find the fact that it's saying the same thing in "Gangsta" funny. And it's not. It's just irritating. So what if they are some of the best musical talents or whatever in the world? They're not funny.
I don't know many examples of something like this. Kung Pow is an example of it done MUCH better. If you're expecting a Mystery Science Theatre or Exploitica-type experience, run away. This is unfunny rubbish, made for the ADD generation.

This is my opinion of what I saw. Maybe I just dont get it. For the £2 I paid for it on Amazon though, guess I can't complain too much.

I accept your apology and agreement with me that Kung Pow ripped off Kung Faux, and I forgive you for not knowing your dates.

Kung Faux debuted on the web then on TV in the UK in 2001 after first being pitched as a film script in 2000, which is when it was ripped off by the producers of Kung Pow, then it began being released on DVD in 2003, which is where the IMDB date comes from boob.

reply

Actually, Kung Faux was being shown on the Dubtitled website back in 1999. That's three full years before Kung Pow ever came out.

Do YOUR research!

If you think MST3000 is better than KFX, you are corny. Kung Faux is brilliant!

One of the crappiest shows EVER!
Can't believe i sat thru a episode of this carbage.
Never again!

reply

The first episode (ill masta) was slammin. The second was alright...and then it got sloppy. Pretty much downhill from there. I'd like to know if the same peeps who directed, wrote and voice-acted the first two episodes were responsible for the remaining shows. The difference in quality disappointed: from the dialogue to the storylines, it all got whack.

reply

I have finally seen all of the episodes and although some may just be straight up funny while others are gut bustingly hilarious, I didn't think any of them were sloppy, and my recollection of the credits was that it was a lot of the same people involved in all of the episodes spiked with different cameos by heavy hitters like Queen Latifah. Haters will always hate, but I love this show!
