Is Anybody Here?

Seriously, am I the only one who saw this show? I've been here quite a few times and there's never anyone on the boards. I'd be curious to know what other people thought of this show. Anyone?

I came to this page thinking I'd find some interesting discussions but now that you mention it the show probably IS ancient history to a good many people (in a day & age in which anything that's been around for longer than 2 seconds is ancient history). Frankly, I'm disappointed. I saw the show when it first came out and have remained a fan for these 2-3 years. It's a great show, but everyone seems to have forgotten about it. It's tragic, really. Learned a lot from the show.

I have to say I was dissapointed with the show.

It is a fascinating concept, and they came up with some spectacular creatures but for the most part they didn't have very good visuals.
Most of the CG in this film was very poor, didn't blend in well with the background, didn't look real (looked plastic) and moved strange. They also re-used shots a lot.

Maybe I'm being picky but after seeing the amazing CG in Walking with Dinosaurs and Walking with Beasts I was expecting a lot better.

I really liked the show too. And to answer your question, it said the planet would become too hostil for human life, so we end up living in space. I saw it when it came on the Animal Planet before I saw the dvd, and it was different. It was more like they were doing a Discovery Channel thing on future animals.

It said somewhere that the Human race had become extinct... that we existed for "a brief ten thousand year period".

Secondly, I felt that it portrayed fiction too much as fact. Granted, it may be based on educated guesses, but it is still guesses, and guesses are often wrong... I mean, look at the lottery!

I actually liked how it was portrayed as fact, it made it more fun and interesting. It's supposed to be exactly like a real wildlife documentary, similar to how the Walking With series are presented, hence why they portray fiction as fact. It makes it seem more 'real'.

The website says mankind simply left Earth to colonize other planets, although I prefer mankind to have gone extinct, for instance because of dramatic climate changes (like the new Ice Ages portrayed in this series). It seems more believable since mankind isn't any more immortal than your average species; the average species lifespan is 5-10 million years before it goes extinct or evolves into something else, and we're not exactly doing much to help us beat the average. We'll probably have killed ourselves (or maybe Mother Nature will do the dirty work herself) long before we get to colonize space.

I personally thought that this show was a lot of rubbish. I myself am interested in evolution, and have also wondered what the future of life on Earth would be like, but this was just a disappointment. First off, it was clearly very low-budget and looked extremely cheap and unprofessional. Secondly, I felt that it portrayed fiction too much as fact. Granted, it may be based on educated guesses, but it is still guesses, and guesses are often wrong... I mean, look at the lottery!

Seriously, though... if you are interested in wildlife documentaries and science fiction, this is a good blend of the two, but overall if you want something more interesting, look elsewhere. Oh... and do not take it as gospel, okay?

Ya know, sometimes the key to science is imagination...

I assume people who dump this off as 'rubbish' did not like Carl Sagan.

To the person who is very interested in evolution but says the show is all guesses, what do you call evolution? in fact, everything that exists is all theory. Humans have such little access to the mysteries in the universe that we have no right to produce "laws" or "theories" I accept the possibilities and enjoy them! I loved this show!

I was so impressed by this show that I wound up getting the DVD set and a few books on it, including one by Dougal Dixon called 'After Man.' Entirely different creatures in it but also really, really cool.
