Yes this film had its problems but

I liked it a lot better than Wolf Creek, the Hostels and Saws. <spoiler alert> At least the organ harvesting mad doctor had a reasonable motive for what he was doing. That is, he has had enough of exploitative US foreign policy in Latin America and it is payback time. In too many of the these types of films the violence is just for violence sake. Gratuitous splatter is okay when it's supernatural, Freddy and so on, but it should at least make an attempt to be plausible when the director is aiming for realism. Wolf Creek is probably the worst of this bunch. What an undergrad piece of trash that was.

Wolf Creek is much better than this. Turistas is quite anodyne, while Wolf Creek is quite disturbing and really gives the feeling of being helpless in that situation.

Wolf Creek and this film were both disturbing in their own ways. I can't really say which one I enjoyed better. I enjoyed the cinematography far more in this one as opposed to Wolf Creek.

Wolf Creek stirred up more fear in me though and struck me as being more realistic.
I'm not keen to go to the outback after seeing it, but I still wouldn't pass up the opportunity to go to Brazil.

Turistas and wolf creek are ok my favorites so I can't really understand why wolf creek is so unrealistic. It's literally the same thing except in Australia. The only difference is John Jarratt is a serial killer who kills hitchhikers which is pretty realistic since it happens/happened before. Love bob these movies but I was more terrified with Wolf Creek.
