I don't think it was a shock when he finds her dead, but I don't think it was supposed to be. I mean considering what she says in bed, it seemed like that was what was going to happen. I really don't think this is a suspense film.

So why do you think he says to the landlord that he killed her:

He feels guilty for killing the girl

He feels guilty for Eva killing herself, and him not seeing the signs or being able to stop her

In a twisted way he wants to complete her work of art, or wants her to know he gets it

He feels like he has lost everything so he doesn't care

He is just *beep* crazy

roman had a lot of guilt over the death of "the girl", and he really liked eva, so he emotionally snapped. maybe roman had some guilt, the razor blade eva killed herself with she acquired from his bathroom floor.
yes, he was crazy. i mean, he talked to a dead body in his bathtub. roman was a functioning sort of crazy.
i agree with all your statements, except i don't think roman thought to much in the realm of gaining things, so essentially he didn't lose anything.
i don't think he believed eva was going to kill herself.

I think it's a combination of the first one and the last two. Personally, I think when he says "I killed her" he was referring not just to Eva but also to the girl he killed. In a way, I see it as if he was paying for the first murder by blaming himself for this one. Maybe he even felt guilty because she used his switchblade. Maybe he thought it was also some kind of punishment or something. That he was crazy, I have no doubt,but I don't think this was the main reason for his actions when he discovers Eva's body.

I think he says "I killed Her" because he said he understood Death and it's purity and absolutness. Which is what she was looking for in someone. Remember,she was I think obssessed with that play "Hedda Gabbler". Especially the suicide scene in it. She couldn't stop talking about it. Even up to when Roman enters the apartment,I thought that Eva was goung to kill him. Adding him to her artwork/collage. Because she kept asking him if he gets it. I thought that she was setting him up to die. A very good film though!
