It's similar (creepy guy who may or may not be a serial killer has a romance with a girl whos abnormally pleasant all the time, bad things happen) only much much better. And instead of Veronica Mars it has Joan Of Arcadia.

I actually think Spiral borrowed a lot of it's story/characters from Roman.
And I like Roman better.

Well your opinion is fine, but Spiral didn't "borrow" a goddamn thing from Roman. Spiral was shot in late 2005, long before Roman was released (first festival screening in late 06).

Roman was shot in May of 2005. Stop worrying about influences, all movies have similar characters. Filmmakers are too busy writing there own ideas to bother with plagiarism. If you think there is a resemblance, it is probably the actors pulling from the past legendary performances they were both inspired by.
shareSpiral and Roman have much more than a few similarities to each other but... I think Spiral is better. Spiral has a little more backstory, has better production value, and has a great twist. And, it wasn't as intentionally weird and morbid like Roman was. (like the frozen body in Roman)
Roman is good too, though.

Spiral was made for a considerably larger amount of money. Both were small movies, but if Roman had an extra 1.25 million behind it, it probably would have looked a hell of a lot better. Not that bad considering it's 250k budget.
