There was actually an essay question on the test. The Intern wasn't thorough and Chris was. It seems the Intern assumed that finishing fast would demonstrate his intelligence. He was overconfident and condescending.
However, Chris took his time and made sure to look on the back of the test. It is up to the test taker to do this. He wouldn't deliberately stress out the Intern. It wasn't a game.
Chris was genuine to ask this Intern what he thought about the essay question. The Intern rushed to finish first and overlooked the essay question. This shows he is not keen.
We see that Chris is put into many situations to win this job. He never turns down any of these requests. $5 loan, parking car, missed appointment with CEO, get coffee for instructor, taking ride with firm partner to demonstrate his abilities, and etc. Resumes don't always tell the full story. In my opinion, the partners already knew Chris would be the one and just tested his integrity throughout the internship.
He proved his loyalty. He signed on valuable clients. He never made excuses.
All test takers had the essay question.
