parapluies de cherbourg

ok most obviously this movie takes its inspiration from moulin rouge, but the tone, the ending, and clearly the umbrella scene really points me in the direction of les parapluies de cherbourg. i really wish they had come together in the end, but like in the other movie, the end is left open for interpretation, leading in the direction that the protagonist took the most practical approach.
