Completely missed this gem!

I watched this today and really liked it. I can't believe I hadn't seen it or even heard of it before because I'm a big Spike Lee fan. This has a phenomenal cast, many of my favorites: Denzel Washington, Christopher Plummer, Clive Owen, Jody Foster! It's a bank heist movie. It's witty, fun and clever. I checked the info on IMDb and it was a pretty successful movie, so I'm not sure how I missed it, but I'm so happy I found it today while just channel surfing. Good writing and an outstanding score (Terrance Blanchard is a super talented composer) make this a must-see Spike Lee movie. It's excellent and I highly recommend it.

Agree on everything,
But what about the opening and closing song?

reply

I LOVED that Indian song. I'll have to look up the name of it but it was the thing that made me start to watch the movie to begin with. I was flipping the channels and the song was on and then I saw the cast and the director and I wondered what movie it was. Happy accident.

reply

There were threads on imdb, saying it is one of the worse songs ever, like this https://moviechat.org/tt0454848/Inside-Man/58c78e4e93cef4080d8aac4d/One-of-the-worst-songs-EVER-during-an-opening-credits

reply

Well, to each his own. I read the thread and it seemed to be filled with mostly troll-like responses. Other responses seemed to be about racial differences. I'm completely uninterested in that rhetoric. The song is awesome. I'm not sure if it "fit" into the story since I can't understand the language. I just like how it sounds. Saying a song is "one of the worst songs ever", is just ridiculous hyperbole.

reply

Agreed! Great song, can’t understand why people are trashing it.

reply

i don't need your recommendation of this film because i have seen it,
the first time around because i was "in the know"

reply

Happy for you.

& i return the favor

Changing subject, what about Denzel on a Segway?
Immersive or funny?

reply

Do you mean that one shot Spike always does where he's got the camera on the dolly with the actor? It's his signature shot. I always look for it in his movies.

reply

Yeah, you think it makes you feel more for the character? Or takes you or the public out of the movie, because it is obvious he is on the dolly?

reply

Ever since Jungle Fever, where I first really noticed it, I always look for the shot. I guess it’s part of the story but it’s Spike’s special “thing”, like Hitchcock’s appearances in his films.

reply

Agree this is one of my favorite movies!

reply

It's a great movie. Denzel and Clive are excellent. It's definitely one of my favorite Spike Lee movies

reply

I too missed this until just now. A real gem.

reply

I’m glad you caught it. It’s a fun movie.
