Would it have made much of a difference if Spoilers?

Bobby had mentioned the dog was dead earlier. Would it have changed anything? I remember watching this several years ago I think he waited until nightime or something like that. I remember watching the original from 1977 as well ,and Bobby waited until nightime as well ,but his sister scolded him for not mentioning the dog was dead earlier. So i'm was just wondering if it would have made a big difference.
