Did anyone else cry...

during the "I once was blind but now I see" scene?

reply

I admit I was pretty close to crying.

Look at the post, not my sig.

reply

during some parts of this story my eyes were not dry.

I teared up at the end of the final scene. After all those years of hard work, he finally got what he wanted. :)

"Do you think me handsome?" "No, sir."

reply

It was the bagpipes at the end which tugged at my heart strings, I couldn't stop crying. They just summed up eveything in the movie. Beautiful sound, beautiful song.

To err is human, to arr is pirate.

reply

That is the scene that got me. Always does. Whenever I hear a band of bagpipes playing Amazing Grace just makes me tear up.

Dwight Schrute: Your pencils are creating a health hazard. I could fall and pierce an organ.

reply

Yes, but don't go by me. I also cried when little Remy the rat was revealed as Linguini's chef-mentor in Ratatouille!

reply

Yeah, the beginning of the movie, where William sings "Amazing Grace" in the crowded room, choked me up. It was so moving, and you could tell that everyone in the room, for the briefest of instances, forgot about their level in society and their social politics. So moving. The whole movie was.

I cried throughout the movie. I loved it so much. I mean I knew some of Wilberforce's story before watching this, but to see it played out so well was amazing.

Fasten your seat belts, it's gonna be a bumpy ride.

reply

Yes!! That scene was so moving because it embodies the heart and soul of Real Christianity in that one statement. And being a Christian, I feel it fully with all of my broken, humble and grateful heart.

This movie was very beautifully made. Why doesn't Hollywood make more films like this? And why don't they promote them more, so they find a wider, well-deserved audience? Instead moronic "blockbusters" like "Transformers" rule the day. Unbelievable!

I just saw this movie the other night, and I have to say I did cry. I actually cried quite a bit, when Newton said "we called them with grunts... We were the animals, they were the humans." Along with the scene where Fox crossed the line to sign the petition.

reply

Along with all the other scenes mentioned, I almost cried at the scene where Wilberforce goes to see John Newton for the first time in many years and meets the beggar before he goes in. Since he had no legs, the poor beggar reminded me of a dog, sitting by the door and waiting for scraps. It made me so sad to see a human in that shape!

reply

I cried in many scenes. That scene you just explained "I once was blind, but now I see."

And especially the end When Fox gave that little speech for Willaim. It was a beautiful movie altogother.

reply

Pah you guys should go to America, we have that song sung at nearly every funeral and some football games. Its alot more moving when sung by a talented female artist. If you think that scene was moving, you should try and search for an mp3 of that song sung by someone else and listen to it.

The part where he's trying to wean himself off laudanum.

I am now 13 minutes from the end of the film and I haven't blubbed once and wish it to be known! I am finding the film immensely inspirational. The bagpipes are going to get me aren't they?.....

reply

If not then, then the end titles.

reply

Just reading these replies made me cry, recalling all the mentioned scenes!

I play a recording of Amazing Grace every St Patricks day in honor of my mom who passed away on that day. Its so amazing to hear the sole bagpipe playing, joined in by an army of pipes, then leaving just the one playing off alone at the end. So fitting when someone leaves us in death. So, yeah, I bawled my fool head off. I can't be trusted either, as I cry at Christmas coffee commercials.... *sniff* "He came all the way home from college and made them coffee! How sweet! " LOL

Cass is hard on a meat suit........*sigh*

reply
