Wonderful film - better than 'Lincoln'

I watched "Amazing Grace" for the first time on television last night and thought the story was beautifully told and supremely well acted.

Back in January I saw "Lincoln" and thought it was rather a dull and plodding affair, though of course DDL was as good as I've come to expect from him. But I found the film itself quite boring until about the last half-hour. With "Amazing Grace", I was totally engaged from the start. All the characters were brought to life for me by the talented British cast and it was a film full of humour and humanity. In a way, the two films are both political procedurals, but "Amazing Grace" managed tell its story with wit and a lightness of touch that made "Lincoln" seem overly respectful. Ioan Gruffudd's William Wilberforce and everyone else in the film created fully-rounded flesh-and-blood characters that I could identify with. Even the pro-slavery faction was wonderfully represented by the fabulous Toby Jones and Ciaran Hinds.

I agree with you to a large extent. 'Amazing Grace' was well acted and scripted. I just re-watched it last night and finished it today (because I was lazy and tired). 'Lincoln' also had its share of boringness to it but I would still place it at the same level as 'Amazing Grace' because each film is unique in its own portrayal. Sure, 'Amazing Grace' is humourous and entertaining but for a history-lover, 'Lincoln' doesn't fall short of expectations and still has its share of humour.

I saw LINCOLN in the theater; it's a fine movie by any standards, particularly with regards to the acting and the score. AMAZING GRACE is perhaps less "impressive" but touched my heart more.

Totally agreed, better film IMO. Lincoln wasn't memorable to me.amazing grace is reachable and was very warm and moving.
