Will there be a season 2 - yes or no?

Anyone know ANYTHING? I'd really like to see more Thief.

reply

Doubtful, the show completely tanked in the US. By the second episode only <1M were watching. Who knows what happened after that...I didn't even realize they played all 6 episodes, it dropped off the radar so fast.

reply

It will be a shame if they don't start season2 i know for a fact that in the uk it was very popular.

reply

I think yes, the Shield is going out and Rescue Me will be there in the summer. Nip/Tuck is the wild card. s3 was awful, so I have low expectations for s4, but if it is good, then it might pose a problem. However, that being said, I say it has a 60% chance of coming back.

ha wow kevin ur an idiot.

more than likely there wont be a season two it was meant to be a mini series nothing more nothing less. hence the six episodes. however the shield isnt going out just yet there will be ten more episodes to air for what is being named the sixth season and there will also be an additional 13 episodes to air late 2007 early 2008 dubbed the seventh season. and rescue me is expected to stay for awhile if it continues its critical success and its ratings. yes nip/tuck season three was somewhat awful just due to the carver story but with its amazing ratings especially the 5.3 million viewers it brought for the season three finale season four looks like itll be a sucess and i do expect a season five but beyond that i do not know.

Be careful who you call an idiot there...

Last time I checked, Theif was originally ordered for 13 episodes, Katrina hit NO and FX had decided the production cost were too high. They decided to cut it to 6 and see how it did.

The Shield has huge gaps between seasons and it is going out...but you failed to read that.

Rescue Me has a chance to go the length of the Shield. But Leary has said before he wants to go out on top. I don't see it going past 4 seasons.

Nip/Tuck was awful last season. And Ryan Murphy has a potential film career in the works, so his days on Nip/Tuck could be numbered. If that is the case, FX is not going to sign them up again, because the rating will dip.

Next time, read and think before you post. The mind is really a terrible thing to waste.

whilst season three was being filmed he was filming running with siccors so his days on nip/tuck have been numbered and the ratings during his absence were great i dont see them dipping this season to no more than 3 million ppl.

reply

True, but that was in reference to quality. Crap is crap, there is no dressing it up.

reply

well yea some of it was crap ill admit it, come on the whole sean leaving his business and having yet again another mid life crisis and the whole anne heche character plot, and the resolution of the carver and the plane crash yes it was crap but what im referring to is that fx does not see that they see the ratings and with the season finale garnering over 5 million viewers all they see is big money so i dont really see a dip in the ratings for season four because i think the writers now know that we all hated how the carver was handled so theyll go back to what made the show back to its core.

reply

Fair enough. But things don't look to good. Clifton Collins Jr, (Jack) just got cast in the Shield for season six. I can safely say Thief's days might be numbered.

reply

yes i do believe that there will be no more theif its a shame because i felt there was enough story to tell for another season and end it there.

FX called the last episode the "season finale" in it's ads, hopefully they'll at least release it on DVD, there if it finds an audience there'll be more. If not, at least we have this great series on DVD.

It seems it's considered a miniseries now that Braugher and Clifton Jr. were nominated for Emmy's in the miniseries categories.

reply

Yeah I guess the fact that they've put it in the mini-series category pretty much confirms its over for Thief. But then again maybe the two Emmy nods it just got will give it a reprieve? FX didn't get much else in the Emmy stakes apart from a nomination for Denis Leary. Ehh, probably won't happen. Still, hopefully they'll give it a nice DVD release...

reply

I don't think Thief is over. I think the reason why it was put in the mini-series category was because there was only 6 episodes. The 4400 was nominated last year for the best mini-series and just so happens to be in it's third season. The first season of The 4400 was only a couple of episodes.

reply

That's true, but Thief got way less promotion than the 4400 and therefore got way less viewers, despite being a much better show.

reply

Well the 4400 was supposed to be just a mini-series, but it was a cash cow for NBC/Universal, so they are milking it for all it's worth

reply

I enjoyed Thief. Too many plot lines were left dangling. If no second season, at least a two-hour movie to wrap it up.

In the USA Today yesterday, they referred to this show as a flop. So I'm assuming that means it probably will not be renewed.

reply

Well and crap like "survivor" is _still_ on the air...

All the folks who watch that crapfest of a show are smack junkies who let a truly excellent show like Thief die a terrible death, while they watch a stupid predictable show that is the exact same thing was it was last year, but for that it is set in yet another random semi-pristine place around the world they decided to trample and pollute with a 200 person production staff, plus the "castaways".

Why would you want it released on DVD? The story was never finished. Why dont you just grab a book and only read 20 of the 25 chapters? Getting the 6 eps of THIEF on DVD would be the same thing.

reply

It's so pathetic people who name call in internet forums, must get his ass kicked in real life and takes it out on random people, loser.

reply

So far, none of you have given a definitive answer - SO SHUT UP.

reply

You're a dick haizum. The people here are talking about the aspects of the show, that might figure out if a second season is coming.

Anyway, I doupt that there will be a second season. One of the guys was shot, and will proboly die from it. Another has been arrested. The computers guy was killed at the very start of the season. And the main character is running away. (I forgot all of the names)

reply

Well, I went over to this board hoping that there might be an annoucement about season 2 since Andre Baugher won an emmy for his role in Thief. Sadly, no announcement yet. I am surprised no one watched the show in the U.S.. I loved it.

reply

It would seem to me that an Emmy win for lead actor would sway the studio to consider/reconsider their position on another season. There's a lot they can do with the show and I, for one, will watch it start to finish. It's one of the most compelling shows I've seen in a long time... especially compared to a lot of what studios are offering these days (all the "reality" stuff is played out).

reply

i think there will be. if not fx is lazy or forgetful about its website. its still in the shows menu. may not mean anything now though.

reply

I heard rumors there will be but they were stupid for not hanging tough when the numbers didn't please. It has done great in the overseas market, and that is what FX is looking at now. Blame bad promotion and P & A.

reply

The show has been cancelled, there isn't going to be another season. In fact Andre spoke with reporters about the cancellation at the Emmys.

reply

I don't think the show got cancelled. Over There got canceleed and when it did, they talked about how thief was renewed. Also if you look at Fxnetworks webiste, Thief is listed under shows. Over there and shows like Lucky which were cancelled, are not. So if it is going to be to cancelled, FX has not offical decided yet.

I really liked Over There as well, wish they didn't cancel that show.

reply

The show has definitely been cancelled. If you don't believe me, go here and watch the video of Andre Braugher's interview after Emmy Awards:

http://www.tv.com/thief/show/26478/summary.html?q=thief&tag=search_results;title;0

The first question asked is why there were only six episodes of the show and Andre's answer? "It was cancelled."

If the lead actor of a show tells someone that the show in question has been cancelled on a public stage like that, it's almost certain that (1) it's true and (2) it's official.

Website updates can be delayed, so I don't think that's much to go by. And Over There was cancelled almost a year ago (November 2005), so that's definitely nothing to go by.

reply

Thanks for the link to the video. I look forward to Andre's next project.
