'Inspired' by The Usual Suspects?

It seems so...with Irfan playing Kevin Spacey.

It is not inspired by 'The usual suspects', in fact it is the dubbed hindi version of that movie. Though they tried to change a few things here and there but that made it even worse. Now, i felt not so good after watching this movie as I has alread watched the english version and from scene no 1, I knew this is the copy.
But, i think it is better to copy these kind of movie and give them to those viewers who have not watched the original english movies. After all, it is not such a bad movie and much better than those regualr bollywood movies.. so if just because it is a copy, we shouldn't strike it off.

btw, the director claims that you could show this movie proudly anywhere in the world. Now try that in US or UK :-)

the problem with Bollywood is it tries to bring western culture into films but fails miserably. Why is Dave Kujan(anil kapoor) a lawyer? Lawyers do not care about the truth. Why bring in Basic Instinct scenes into a film that does not need them? Why is Kujan happy about beening made a fool of, then kops of with the journalist? Why does everyone survive out of the gang? The truth is some of the plot has been rewritten so the "stars" are made to look good and that spoils the remake. must contain the worst line ever in film "if women can fake an orgasm, why can't they fake silence". Hey???????

The problem I see with the "new" Bollywood is that it's trying to cater to the noveau-middle class. However, it is more reminiscent of those "poser" commercials I see for Virgin phones: indian guys who think they are studs because they talk about sex while dressed in Abercrombie/Gap, while indian girls think they are the next Angelina Jolie because they show skin (but no T&A) while dressing like a ho.

Wish Bollywood would go back to the naivete of the old films from the 70s and late 80s (Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander, Sholay...heck, I'll even watch "Maine Pyar Kya", which I despised, but will take over the trash nowadays).

Oh, the pity...

Someone said that the movie is good for those people that have not seen 'The Usual Suspects'. Well, I beg to differ for I saw Chocolate first and it sucked. I didn't know a damn thing about 'Usual suspects' but the movie failed to deliver standing alone by itself either. There is no actual racy feeling to it, nobody is on the edge of their seats, no INTELLIGENCE what-so-ever! Then later, i did see 'The Usual Suspects' and it blew my mind. The emotion, the tenseness, all just brilliant. Something that Chocolate could never be. Anyway, the director must've been tripping to think he could pull off 'The Usual Suspects' without Kevin Spacey, much less the absence of mystery that we got out of the lone unreliable narrator. Chocolae left me feeling empty inside, while The Usual Suspects, left me wide awake wondering over the movie over and over again. I say that the government should ban such remakes like this, Salaam Namaste, Hum Tum and such so-called 'inspired' movies, when they clearly are anything but.

I watched Usual Suspects again recently for the hundreth time and was thinking that this was one film that Bollywood would never dare to remake. Days later, I was flipping through the channels, and saw the last scene of Chocolate...and nearly ripped my hair out. I was cursing at the TV and was completely pissed off.
I would never watch this film because the ending was stupid and even if the rest of the film is average the ending needs to be good - Why were all the clues in a magazine???

Samralad was right in saying rewriting the plot "so the "stars" are made to look good...spoils the remake."

Bollywood movie writers really need to sit down and come up with something original. Imagine copying some else's work your whole life, that means your whole career was a joke!!

So in turn, Bollywood is a joke then

reply

no...bollywood movie writers who write remakes unsuccessfully are a joke!

Inspired? It totally ruined The Usual Suspects for me.

reply

inspired? i think its clearly obvious that it was a RIP-OFF and even that a very very bad and horrible one.
indians writers and directors are better off making college romance and 12 songs movie with lead chick dancing with 32 extras in a shopping mall or the lead star girl chasing the train or the bride marrying the guy of his dream at the very last min when she is abt to marry some guy her parents picked or something like that.
making a sensible film is just not something they can pull off.
