This film never stood a chance at the box office.

This could have been a box office hit if Dimension Films knew how to handle their movies. With a Christmas Day release date, it was doomed to fail.

On Christmas Day, people are with their families, so they are not likely to want to watch a bloody slasher movie, and after Christmas, holiday-themed movies have no relevance, so people aren't in the spirit to watch them.

There was definitely interest in this film, as it made more money on DVD than it did at the box office ($30 million on DVD is really good for a film of this nature). This film is a prime example of how a release date can make or break a film.

Yeah, they thought they could pull it off cause Scream did well that time of year. With Scream though that was actually a high quality movie and didn't do that well initially either.

I think Black Xmas would have done better if it was released the firs week of January.
