I agree with you...Anyone who disagrees obviously saw it with a cynical eye and doesnt appreciate good cinema and probably likes dinchak music and jhatak costumes and the traditional hindi movie with love, seperation and happy endings ..
Great movie, great performances by Shreyas, Shweta and Shah... A must watch for cricket fans and fans of good cinema...

I certainly agree with you guys. What I dont understand is why hindi film makers are obsessed with the idea that the only way to make a successful film is to have colourful costumes, funky(yet repititive) item numbers, skimpy outfits, and wafer-thin storylines and characters. It will forever be the predicament of Bollywood, that to make successful (commercial) films, they have to forgo artistry and versimilitude. A film like Iqbal comes so very rarely among the usual nonsense, and surprise it doesnt have an incredible star cast, and yet is a beautiful, well made yet simple film. We need more art and less candifloss superficial entertainment!

I think much of the blame lies with audiences. I mean if audiences would watch movies like Iqbal, more filmmakers would be encouraged to make such cinema. Its not that there is a lack of such talent in India, its just that they are not given the opportunity to do their work.

Filmmakers, whether in India or in the US are businessmen. They will pursue what will make them money.

So until Indian audiences don't mature as filmgoers we will continue to see what we see now, unfortunately.

I agree with you. Its about the audience's maturity

D Bijj,

It is not necessary that the masses should throng such movies. For a sensitive and imaginative mind, giving expression to thoughts is enough. Impressive films have been, and will continue to be, made regardless of public response, to satisfy that pinching urge of the mind.
Impressive films are not just the so-called art films (although some of them are); even some of the ostensibly commercial films have so many subtle points to be noted by a sensitive mind.

well.. not necessarily .. thats simply an opinion like saying anything thats not white is black. i dont like dinchak movies.. but i also didnt find anything great with this movie either.. maybe its my view.. or maybe i have seen other underdog movies which gave scope to more human emotions (invincible, rudy and october sky)

I really enjoyed this film too.

I started watching it not knowing what to expect and was really pleased.

The shots of the countryside, the tough father and the kind understanding mother, the rich kid vs. poor kid theme, the tipsy coach moved by the kid's sincerity and skill all of these themes worked really well. A well-written movie.
